Crashed monorail question

Post by Honda Enoch » Tue Jul 28, 2009 9:24 am

I am hoping enough time has passed that it is ok to ask this. if not then please excuse my timing.

I was wondering what the plans for Pink and Purple are? Are they goign to rebuild them?

I hope they don't plan to replace them with the ugly monorails from DL.

Thanks

The monorails at Disneyland are fairly new. Less than 5 years old. I don't think they will be getting rid of them soon. They are newer then the ones at WDW.

Would the DLR monorails even work on the WDW track? I know the doors and interiors are completely different, and I'm guessing the passenger capacity is much less for the Disneyland trains. But are the rails and power supply the same at both locations?

My guess, and this is purely a guess, is that they will most likely retire the colors. If they can fix up the trains, they will probably paint them a different color since it is well known which trains were involved. I imagine that would be very hard on the pilots to have to drive either monorail, particularly those who knew Austin the best. I imagine that purple is probably not even salvageable nor would I want them to.

For a little perspective: The parade mishap occurred with what we call a "trailered" float. It was three units hooked together by trailer hitches. we took out that float completely during the investigation and reinstated the castle float from the Magical Memories parade. After the investigation we were able to get the first unit back, but did not reattach the other two, and kept the castle unit in the parade. When we switched over the new parade, the floats were rehabbed a bit and the other two units were reattached. Of course, this was two years after the accident and the floats did not look like they used to. I never once heard anybody say anything about those particular units and the accident, but then again, it wasn't nearly as widely publicized which units were involved.

My husband and I had speculated that they may take the good portions of each train and connect them to make one good train in the interest of being only one train down. And, of course, a repaint would be necessary.

I am hoping once the final train does make it back, it's repainted a different color (maybe another shade of purple), or has a purple stripe as a tribute.

But yes, it is still a bit early, and my apologies to any CMs who are unhappy with my posting about this.

It is too soon. AFAIK all CMs are still under the gag order and can't speak of the incident. I've heard rumors, but they are only that, rumors. Nothing official has been released yet as to the future of those trains. Until something official is released we won't know for certain what will happen.

Sorry if I sound pissy about this- you know it's not like me to be that way but today that's the kind of mood I'm in.

maybe because i just finished up the remembrance blanket to donate in austin's honor and i see this when i get here

no offense against the first poster...but.

It's been three freaking weeks since a man died.

can we not worry about the stripe colors of the trains yet?

does it really matter???

no one is more monorail obsessed than i am, believe me.

but this just isn't important right now.

and since the topic came up, let me add if they just change the stripe color on the trains what good will that do either?

because everyone will look at the 'new' colors and wonder which train it was. well, anyone who has been really effected by what's happened, or who may be asked to drive it, will.

again, sorry for my mood and mods if you feel this is over the top toss it in the trash can.

i just can't even think about this yet and i'm not even a CM directly effected by it.

maybe if you'd seen what i saw at that vigil yo'ud know just how much it really is way too soon to be asking about- let alone speculating about- any of this.

Thank you so very much Bru for keying your comments. Way, way too early & who the hell cares at this time? Stripes, colors - non of this is relevant. The entire Disney CM family still grieves. Austin's Mother & family are still in shock. We ALL need to support them in anyway possible! MonoRail posts MUST add to the healing. Only my deep feelings & HO

Well said Bru! IMO, no appologies needed.

I know I'm a new poster and a guest and as such need to tread lightly - however, I am appalled that despite repeated requests to a) not speculate and b) leave the CMs alone, there are those who continue to do just that.

THAT sums it up perfectly! Some of the CMs, monorail and other, are just starting to be able to come back to this site. The comments and SGs they have had to deal with is something no one should ever have to go through.

Honda Enoch, I am asking you personally to please stop posting questions on the subject. This isn't the first I have seen and while I have absolutely no authority here, enough is enough. This is supposed to be a place of refuge and understanding. Let's let it be just that.

Mods - I understand any editing you feel you need to do.

Questions like that remind of of the press who would call me trying to get info on stuff that have no business asking.

give it a rest.

I think they will worry about all that stuff in a year or two. come back then, or wait for Disney to make a press release.

and by the way, its just not that important in the grand scheme of things.
