Marsupial Mention in Harry Potter! May Contain Spoilers.....

At the old Disney Hyperion Studio, the screening room where animators would show animated scenes to Walt for his approval was small, with no ventilation or AC. Not only was it hot, but the animators were nervously awaiting Walt's reaction to their work. Thus, the room became known as the Sweatbox. Even after the Studio moved to Burbank and elegant screening rooms were offered to the staff, the moniker remained.
Now SGT has a sweatbox of our own. This is the place to find and post all entertaining topics such as video links, jokes, games, and the like. A general rule of thumb is that if the thread is meant to be informative (interesting news stories for example), or a topic for discussion (like setting up a park meet) then it should go in the Break Room, but if the intent is to entertain the masses then it's home is The Sweatbox. I'm sure there will be grey areas at times, so if you have doubt as to where a new thread should go, just use your best judgement and the SGT Staff will be glad to move it later if you guessed wrong.

I can certainly respect that as well. If it's not belief-related, though, I highly recommend them.ktulu wrote:Proud to say I have not seen the movies or read the books :D:
I naturally resist pop-culture trends -- if the masses like it, generally it's not going to be something I'll enjoy. So I came late to the HP series, but when I did, I found them to be very intelligent and enjoyable -- some of the best-written "children's books" I've ever read. They really are a joy to read (and, just as rarely, the movies do the books justice).

Nope, not against my religious beliefs. I mean, I am a proud Christian, however the HP books/movies just never peaked my interest. When they first came out I was like, eh, whatever. It just stuck after that.
I also have not seen the Lord of the Rings movies, but that is only because I didn't get the chance to catch them in the theater, I do own the trilogy on the really cool box set that came out a few years ago, and once my wife and I can get time to settle into a marathon, cause one of those movies alone is a marathon, we'll watch them. Having two young kids does not help things :D:

Funny, but DW and I started reading the HP books, because we were considering getting them for grandkid at the time. There was a bit of controversy about teaching them "witchcraft" which was the same argument brought out when D&D first started to become popular many years before that.
I found them to be well researched and well written. And all the "magic" aside, it does show how a young person can overcome great adversity, and make some tough choices! A plus in any "childrens" book.

Re: Marsupial Mention in Harry Potter! May Contain Spoilers.....
I see many parallels between Rowling's characters and real life situations......we've all encountered someone who is similar to Malfoy, Umbridge, Hermoine, Ron or Luna......Rowling's Harry seems to have a huge cast of personalities surrounding him, and like most of us, Harry sometimes makes wrong assumptions. There are forces of evil that seem overwhelming, but his group of friends of all ages band together to try to fight it. By the time you get to the 7th book, I would doubt that many would still consider the series just for kids
Certainly not for very young children.
Maybe someday when the kids are much older you can all read it together :)
