wow...

Post by SpaceRanger » Wed Mar 31, 2004 7:42 pm

I had to go into casting for an interview this morning, and some of the reactions I saw were just amazing... made me value my job even more... I never went thru the whole horrible interview experience, I was just kinda handed the job, so I was lucky... But then I was sitting in casting, and seeing these people who got told they couldn't work there for whatever reason (too obvious tats, minor, etc) start crying over it was like WOW... in my head I was laughing and thinking "trust me, you don't wanna work here THAT bad", but it really makes you realize how many people would LOVE to have your job.

God must love stupid people. He made so many of them.

It's kinda scary the way that people absolutly love Disney and want to work there. My whole time in Casting was "your breathing, perfect how's attractions sound to you?" I kinda needed a job so I took it. At times I wish I hadn't, but it was full time. Although when I get my degree I'm probably going to leave the company.

A few months ago I took my former roomate to casting because he just kept bitching about his job. It was the only way for him to leave it is if he had an other job, so I figured why not try Disney. He got the job, but there were people there that didn't get the jobs and some of them were crying as they left casting. Some of them even told me that I wasn't going to get a job because of the way I was dressed. I kinda laughed at them because if they only knew. . .

I get people who freak out when they find out I work at Disney. They instantly start on how wonderful it must be and on and on and on. Then they refuse to comprehend when I tell them "it's a job, it's just another job. you start to hate days at Disney just like you'd hate days at McDonald's"

It's been over 5 years since I worked at the Park. I now live in Northern California. I had a DL parking sticker on my old car when I moved up here.

I was in the drive thru at Carls Jr. and the lady at the window noticed the sticker. She asked if I had worked at the Park, and I said yes. She disappeared, and returned with a star antenna topper. She said "You're my star!"

I haven't been back there since.

Down broken. Later back check.

Well...I agree with the idea that Disney is just a job...but at the same time...isn't it more? There has to be something that keeps us here... I speak at least for the west coasters in Anahiem. The area is SO largely populated commercially, that it wouldn't be that hard to find a better paying job. My whole take on it is, you take the job at face value. You enjoy what you do, because some part of you strives for something better, and usually that translates into helping guests and making a little kid's day. I'll admit that I hired into the park because I lost my job as a waiter, and was desperate for money. I stay now because I love what I do. I will put up with countless "Evil APs" and "Know-it-all's" just because I know at one point or another, there is going to be a child that remembers the first time he went to Disneyland with his family.

Heh, now I further admit, we take great pride in showing some guests the wonders of their own stupidity...hence why we are all here... these experiences, to a point, also keep me here. It's also what makes our job fun... we may complain about the stupid irrate guest that didn't understand that the wait time was, and always HAS been posted in minutes (instead of hours).. but the behind-the-scenes stories really keep me going on bad days as well as the good.

Lastly, I just want to explain that these are just MY reasons for working for the Walt Disney Company. Everyone comes and goes with different reasons, and at the end of the day, it IS still a job... but let's face it... for one reason or another... we've come to work together in one of the few work enviorments that still carries a "family feeling" among departments, co-workers and friends.

Thanks for listening.

lmao... prolly a VERY smart thing. You're sure she didn't get your license plate number to start stalking you, right?

Splashy guy: I couldn't have said that better myself. As sad and pathetic as it may be, I still remember being a little kid and all the memories I had at Disneyland... everything from seeing the people sweeping up trash and thinking "They're the luckiest person in the world! I wish I could have their job!" to being so distracted by looking around that I ran smack into a giant trash can that jumped out of nowhere... my mom and grandma were with me that night, so they took me to first aid where I was given ice and a Jimminy Cricket doll, then taken to the arcade to play air hockey. It's those memories that stick with you, and I think that's part of what made me so drawn to the company. I was incredibly happy when I was given a job with the company... I complain about it a lot just to vent and get it off my mind, but I'm still incredibly happy there now. Of course I can't imagine myself CRYING over not getting the job... I can understand crying over a job you get FIRED from, but crying because you didn't get a job that you just applied for seems a little far.

Very true, very true...you have to thank Casting though...can you imagine if a person like that actually got to the location? Whoa nelly... *runs away*

Out of curiosity... anyone have any stories of people that did make it, that SHOULD have been crying out the door of the casting office?

i think there's plenty of those in the the employee's forums

"A little swordplay, now and then, keeps my mind off sheep!"

"You're messing with my Zen thing, man."

"Dreams are as portals,
flat visions of misty places,
fragments bound below my surface,
but I can write dreams,
they flow from me,
inscribed but now unbound,
I touch them,
and they are real,
and they are real."

Supposedly Florida is the easiest place to get a job, I don't really doubt it, but I'm not looking on leaving the Company anytime soon. I know that after all the time I have at Disney, I could still make more at McDonald's if I started today. I work there because I love being part of the Magic for the guests vacations. Even after all the headaches I've gotten, from guests, CMs, managers, I still wouldn't change anything if I had the chance. I love it there.

I was really refering to the scary stupid people who think that this is the end all be all job. They don't realize that you actually have the work at Disney when you work there. And yes, several of those people have made it through Casting and I've gotten the joy of training them. They didn't last long.

I was absolutely thrilled when I got hired in. Ah but you have to know that I started in parades, and it took me 7 auditions before I finally was cast. The only time I cried for not getting a part was when I auditioned for Fantasmic after I had already been in a show. Eh. Water under the bridge.
