Insults that sound like compliments

Post by BRWombat » Fri May 29, 2009 1:35 pm

Maybe some of the creative minds here at SGT can help me with this. Back in my college days, a friend of mine and I collected insults that sound like compliments -- clever phrases you can say to someone and they'll walk away smiling, but then as they reflect on the meaning of the words, they may realize they've been put down. (Or better, they may not realize it!)

Sadly, I've forgotten most of them. The main one I remember is this: "Every time I see you is better than the next!"

Anyone have others?

I normaly smile at a guest who is giving me crap and tell them... "Have a Magical Day" that usualy pisses them off even more... due to the fact that they could not get under my skin.

My dad used to always use "You're not as dumb as you look!"

Years ago I had a Division Chief at work who did not get along very well with many of the people in our Division. When she left I signed the giant card:

"May your times at your new position be as interesting as your times were here."

And several months later Judy and I happened to meet her at a Sears and it was obvious that she had not understood my sentiments. Judy, as well as several people who were into Oriental Culture did understand what I had said.

One wonderful line that I really wish I could take credit for:

"I hope your day is as pleasant as you are!"

Works best right after the guest has thrown a screaming hissy fit.

Ah, yes, I've used that one myself. And you can continue it with, "No one could be!" :D:

  1. May you come to the attention of those in authority
  2. May you find what you are looking for
  3. May you live in interesting times
