Hey CA SGTers! What's Shakin'?

Post by felinefan » Sun May 17, 2009 11:21 pm

About 45 minutes ago, there was a 5.0 earthquake, located 1 mile east of Lennox (in L.A.); it was followed by an aftershock of 3.1 . I was upstairs in my room, and had just navigated away from the USGS site when all of a sudden, the house started shaking. I hung onto my computer monitor to keep it from falling. I didn't feel the aftershock. No damage here, but it caused quite a bit of excitement. Actually, I think we wee due for one; it's been too quiet seismically around here.

Anyone else in SoCal feel it?

And yes, I went back to the USGS site and submitted a report. I think this is the second time I have just navigated away from the USGS site when a quake hit! I had to wait five minutes for the quake to come up on the site, but them's the breaks.

I felt it too. It certainly wasn't as bad as the last major quake, but it sure took a while to stop!

I think it just needed to get it out of it's system before I got there next week.

Why where you at the USGS site BEFORE an earthquake?

Yeah, you need to stop going there. Seems to cause problems. We can now blame two earthquakes on you :)

I remember being at home one night when the kids were little, watching tv, and the couch being bumped. "Knock it off," I yelled at the kids, then looked around....kids in the next room-Earthquake

Did it affect Disneyland? We were there earlier today, but left before having lunch. Said Hi to Purpura. The crowds have been crazy

Was helping a guest when quake rolled through. Neither of us felt anything - at least she didn't say she felt an earthquake. A few minutes later a CM turned to me & said; "Did you feel that?!!" After this the entire store began talking abt the earthquake I was oblivious to. Know it rolled cuz many told me. Aways feel 3.5 plus. Missed all the fun & thrill.

We are out here in Seal beach. I had came in late from work and I was on SGT when the quake hit. It sounded like a loud jet taking off and then all the squeeking and rolling hit our building. It's bad enough when you are on the lower floor. The quake felt like it lasted 20 to 25 seconds. I ended up running into the hallway and holding on for dear life.

My friends were in the swimming pool and spa and they ran out when they saw the water slushing out.

Also my cousin was at the park and called me. She said all the major coasters were 101 with the lights on. My other sister who lives in Poway said everyone came out of their appartment complex after the quake. I there is no more quakes.
