Stupid Streetcar Tricks
Streetcar horses are not skittish. :D:
I was heading toward the castle and was keeping up with the foot traffic while in an ECV. I knew the southbound horse and streetcar were coming soon so I was staying off of the tracks and toward the right side of the street. The Dapper Dans were singing and people filled the area around the small street that leads to the ice cream cones and where the dentist office is at.
The crowd grew to the point that it was standing right next to the tracks. I stopped as the streetcar was coming. So there stood the horse unable to get past the crowd and behind me starting to come up the street was one of the smaller vehicles. So I yelled HORSE COMING THROUGH. People just stood there like um oh that big thing is yelling about the even bigger thing. I started moving forward and herded people out of the way of the horse. They just could not grasp that the horse had the right of way or that they were in the way of traffic. At least the driver thanked me for moving the crowd.
Leaving Disneyland I saw something I rarely get to see. They were putting the streetcar to bed for the night. I drove around to the Main Street Station to watch better. This big Belgian horse plodded along with the whiffletree? you know the wooden thing behind the horse when pulling. He turned around and walked to the back of the streetcar with a driver at his reins. He then backed up and let them hook the wiffletree wood bar thingy to the streetcar.
Then a couple goes to get on the streetcar. Never mind that the horse is facing west and the streetcar seats face east. The CM had to explain that the ride was closed for the day. I heard the driver in a normal voice say "walk" and the horse headed to the barn. I wonder if them SGs actually thought they could ride the streetcar backwards.

Re: Stupid Streetcar Tricks
That's nothing... You should see the SGs when the Xmas Tree is up! Taking that picture is more important than their lives. They stand on the track to take a picture of their kids, and will not move, even when the horse is bearing down on them.
Then there are also the people who leave their strollers (with and without the child in it) on the tracks while they take pictures of the tree.
They just don't realize how difficult it is to stop those horses. The horses know where they are on Main Street, and they know they're not at their normal stopping spot. They want to keep going. They also can barely see the people ahead of them, if at all. All it takes is one leg to knock you over and step on your neck. These horses can very easily kill or injure you without even realizing it. Guests just don't get it...
Luckily, they are all very well-trained, and will almost always stop when commanded (although mostly after a big struggle for the "driver").

Heh, I have always thought that the horses were smarter than most of the guests, and this confirms it!

Now that would be a COMPLETELY appropriate way for the horses to express their displeasure. Wonder if they could be trained to do the spluttering sloppy whinny on command ??mechurchlady wrote:The horses are smarter than the guests for sure. Replace the horses with camels. They'll hawk a loogie at the SGs.

Replace the tigers with elephants. They'll either step on 'em or flog 'em with their trunks.Syndrome wrote:Replace the camels with tigers. They'll eat the SGs.
