Extreme Makeover Families

Post by Mayonnaise » Mon Mar 02, 2009 11:44 am

Ok, so... ever since I got let go, I've had a LOT of time on my hand, which has resulted in my watching a LOT of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, in which it seems about 1 in 4 families get sent to Disney World, (why Ty always specifies thru the bullhorn, is in ORLANDO FLORIDA!)

A lot of the stuff you see the family doing, like getting mobbed by characters makes it pretty clear to me that they're not just being set loose in the parks, but following some kind of itinerary with special events for filming. Does anyone know, are they all given Plaids as part of the package?

And if anyone's seen those clips where they sit at a table with the castle in the background and watch the demo videos... are they on that river porch thing on the tomorrow land side which Zazu told me on the tour, used to be a swan boat launch? That's kinda what it looks like to me... but I'm not sure. Regulars would know better.

I've thought the same thing about the character meets, and the taping times. They also apparently get a healthy supply of Disney-themed clothing to wear.

My kids and I have made a sport out of the quick-cut montage of clips they show for each family riding the rides or walking around in the parks, to establish that yes, indeed, they are at Walt Disney World -- we like to try to call out where each shot was taken as quickly as possible.

That montage also shows that the families have a camera crew with them in all the different parks. Hopefully they get some down time just to have fun.

It's not! It's in Lake Buena Vista! You'd think Disney would know that! I have had so many arguments with SGs who think they know more about Disney that I do, and I read about the parks every day! One person even insited I was worng because some random person they asked said it was in Orlando! ARGH!

Orlando is probably less confusing and it is well known.

At least they aren't too far off, I mean they could be saying that it is in Cleveland. I like visiting Lake Buena Vista, there are a lot of fun things to do there.

Truth be told, most of the Parks and Resorts are actually located in Bay Lake, not Lake Buena Vista.....

I've never even heard of Bay Lake, other than the one in front of MK; only LBV and Reedy Creek. Is it sad that when I read that I thought of all of WDW in the lake near MK? :o:

There are 2 towns within the borders of the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which is sort of a county-esque government authority. The two towns are Lake Buena Vista, and Bay Lake. I'm reasonably sure that all 4 theme parks, as well as Blizzard Beach reside in Bay Lake, while Downtown Disney and Typhoon Lagoon are in Lake Buena Vista. I also believe that Saratoga Springs, Old Key West, and Port Orleans are in LBV, while all the other resorts are in Bay Lake, but not 100% sure about that.

Yup, you have it exactly right. The dividing line is Bonnet Creek, the big ditch just west of ... Bonnet Creek Parkway.

They name resorts after ditches now?
