Bandwidth Limit Exceeded?

Post by felinefan » Sat Jan 24, 2009 5:15 pm

Last night I was trying to log on here, and kept getting a white screen with the message "Bandwidth Limit Exceeded." I know we're a chatty bunch, but what exactly happened? I'm glad to be able to get on today--I miss you guys when I can't log on.

Same thing for me but I said nothing as I figured someone closed the site on purpose to hide from me, lol/

And if the situation is that bad, I'm sure those of us without access to bandwidth can find ways to donate to buy some more :) .

You found a magical way to post without using bandwidth!!! You are going to be rich!

It's happened once before, a while back. Very annoying to say the least. I check this wonderful community every 30 minutes or so when I'm home. I check it almost first thing in the morning after waking up and first thing when I get home from work or if I was out somewhere for a while.

Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.

We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious…
and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

The service we use to host SGT has a limit on just how busy (thus how successful) we can be. When you see that "Bandwidth Limit Exceeded" message, it means just that -- we've supplied all the service we've paid for and you'll have to wait until the next day to get access again.

The admins are aware of the problem, and Polar is in charge of resolving this challenge. It's not unlikely that we may be moving to a new servers soon so as to avoid this particular problem (at lower cost than our present service).

Please have patience, both with the "Bandwidth" messages and our all-volunteer staff as we work to cope with the high level of activity here.

If it gets too much worse before we can move, it may be necessary to close some forums temporarily. You all can help avoid this by limiting your use of images and over-long quotes. Reducing the size of avatars and images in your sig files would also help. Note that all these matters are just temporary -- we fully intend to get enough bandwidth to keep this merry band chatting without interruption.

Don't send money (yet), we'll ask for it if we need some. Then again, you could always buy something from our CafePress site; what could it hurt?

I tried getting on last night. When I saw the screen, I waited until this morning.

Joins DisneyMom in the corner. same problem for me.

I clean out my messages to help. I will try to donate once the E drive is fixed, car is tuned up, I go to DLR, and I do my shopping next month. Times are tough.
