Disney offering buyouts to 600 execs at resort unit

Post by hobie16 » Wed Jan 21, 2009 2:32 pm

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch)
Walt Disney Company is offering buyout packages to about 600 executives at the company's domestic resorts and parks unit, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday on its Web site. Affected employees have until Feb. 6 to decide take the buyouts, according to the Journal.

Buyouts & layoffs are the name of the game @ Disney CNN reports. Parks are to be hit this week or next. Think we all knew this was coming.

Yep, it was only a matter of time before the economy caught up with WDP&R.

I don't think it'll hit too much at the front-line hourly rangs, though. At least here at the DLR, most of our CMs are CRs who can just not be scheduled any hours (I'm already hovering in that range, lol).

FTers and old-contract CRs with benefits might see layoffs, but both of the major Union contracts (Foods and Master Services) allow RFT CMs who converted from CR status (nearly all RFTers) to drop to CR status in lieu of layoff, with the intention of reclaiming RFT status when things pick up. Depending on the situation, they may retain their RFT seniority for scheduling purposes, as well.

I hope you don't get hit with a layoff. I've been through them several times, and it's not fun. :(

Oh Thanks Glendal! This sparkles my day. ;) Naw, they won't lay me off. Who would make em laugh & roll their eyes as I make mistakes. Think I'm safe. ;)

Ah well, I retired once, I could always try that again.

At least they waited until I got my ten-year pin first. Yup, 19 January marked ten years with the Mouse.
