Why dont guests listen!!!!!

Post by DISNEYVAL » Thu Feb 26, 2004 4:51 pm

Why is it that when you tell the guest for their safety and ours for that matter, they don’t listen. Here is my story. I worked on The Great Movie Ride back in 2002 as a college intern.
Some of you know the speal " Please no flash photography or use of external video lighting." Well I had these guests the constantly kept taking pictures throughout the attraction. Fine I did not mind till I got to Gangster Alley, which in that area is dark and we do run around, at the time so any flash could bother you plus we run (walk) down the stairs.
Now that was no the area that bothered me. Well when I get to the Anubis scene as soon as the veichael comes up again there is more flashing. The gangster came up the steps and was mad that the guests keep taking the flash. Well I was not going to say anything to her till I did my TAAAA DAAAAA!!!
Then I started to go down the steps it’s very darken that area and the only thing you can see is the yellow tape on the steps. Well once again this lady took more pics and something I did not mention was that she did not have a regular camera. She had one of those expensive freaking ones that took multiple pics at one time. So you have like 50 flashes before you eyes can adjust. So yeah half way down I was blinded missed a step and rolled literally the rest of the way down. The only thing that stopped me was the veicheal when I hit it. While some people laughed which i admit I did too. I was nervous and embarrassed  and made a quick little joke about it.
The damn guest still was taking pictures and seemed to not care what happened. NOW I WAS PISSED limped back on and said one again NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY!!!! Throught the rest of the show she still kept taking pictures, I could also see the other guests were not happy. So finally the show ended, so when it came time to release the guests. I kept the two that took the pics in the veicheal and limped over to them and really laid into the guests it did not seem to help cause all they did was laugh at me. Just pissed me off more.

Has anyone else had to deal with this? and the worst thing is there is not much you can do. :x

I'm sure we've all had to deal with this.

My biggest flash issue has been when working the nighttime parades. I first ask them not to. Then I explain that it's for the safety of the cast. Then I point out their photos will be better if they don't use flash. :hammer:

When all that fails, I stand in front of them and very pointedly offer to take their camera over to City Hall for safekeeping since they can't keep it from flashing.

Haven't tried it with digital cameras, but you don't have to let folks take too many film shots of the inside of a black hat to get their attention!

During an evac we told people not to take pictures inside the ride. Well, this group of girls decided to pose and take a picture in front of some animation. The cast member that was with me took the camera away from her. Through the whole evac she kept saying how sorry she was and that she would never do it again. I believe that tears were involved. She really thought that she wasn't getting it back. She got the camera back in the end and the cast member told her if she did it again we would take the film. Probably could have gotten us in a lot of trouble but she was just thankful to get her camera back. That's not evil, is it?

Awe that was mean. :( . Just playing I dont know, personaly I have never been told anything about not letting the guests take pictures of areas within the attraction even on an evac, only durring the operation of the ride. I have personaly took pictures of things that we as castmembers are not supposed to do, but as long as they dont end up on the internet then they dont care.

The only reason we tell them not to take pictures is because evacs would take forever if everyone stopped to pose with the animation. Then there is the chance that as they are posing they damage something. It's not like they listen anyway. Hopefully those girls learned a lesson. When a cast member tells you to do (or not to do) something,do what they say. (Personally, I think cast members taking pictures inside attractions are just perks of the job :D)

I would have stopped the ride and had security and a lead come out. I hope you are ok.

Yeah now I understand on the evacs and the taking of the pics. I have only only done one evac, and it was very smoth. Yeah i was fine, just a little sore from the fall, as far as kicking them off. I worked on the Great Movie Ride so by the time I call some one and they show up the show would be half way over, and would have to make all the guests wait.
:D

Yeah, inside of space mt its so dark in there. Sometimes you are just blinded by some flashes.

Or my favorite is when people get on and have there camera lighting on. We tell them to turn it off and then do but the on the ride they turn it right back on! Then whoever is in tower tells them to turn it off on the PA and if they don't they light up space the whole way down.

Then coming into unload theyc an blind the CM down there. Just not cool

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!

Back when I worked in tomorrrowland at Alien Encounter we would have at least once ever 4-5 shows somebody with a light on their camcorder on. One time when the refused to turn it off we let everybody in the chamber, except for them see the show again under show lighting. But we made the guest with the camera and his party leave. This was also we did frequently on Space Mtn as well because the light ruins the ride for everybody.
