The runaway bus
Just got home & thought I would share my runaway bus story..
I was waiting for a bus to Epcot at ASM on Saturday. The bus arrives but he can't seem to get it parked right to load a ECV. After 4 tries he gets just close enough fro the ramp to reach the curb.(He has had the ramp down each time to see if he could reach & doesn't seem to get the fact that he must put it back before moving the bus again)
I foolishly get on that bus because I was running late.. The people on the bus (about 10) tell me they have been on board a hour & the driver seems very lost. They got on at Blizzard Beach heading to French Quarter, They never made it.
Now I am getting worried.. Where will we end up? Passengers are freaking out asking the driver to please let them out.. He keeps driving, He's on the radio, He looks very confused..
We end up at Epcot & now we are circling the parking lot... He passes every stop & keeps going & going..
Around we go again...
We now see many drivers running out & flagging him down to stop...
At last we stop, I get out, He is removed & I hope the other passengers finely get to French Quarter..
Poor guy was mumbling "I am in big trouble" I think it was his first day as he kept looking through a note pad..

Re: The runaway bus
LOL! Reminds me of a bus adventure I had many years ago. I was lined up, along with many, many, many fellow guests at the stop for our hotel (don't remember which one it was). It was not at a shared bus stop. A bus rolls up, and I think it actually had another hotel on the marquee, but everyone got on because we figured, "Why would he pull up here if he was going elsewhere?" We all trooped on and were soon on our way. There was a collective buzz of confusion as we all saw the bus pull into the wrong hotel! The driver says, "This is the right destination" and the entire busload of people says "No, it's not!" We all went back and forth for a bit, and I guess he finally realized that he must have screwed up since everyone on the bus was going to the alternate destination. Problem was, he didn't really know where it was so it took some time to get there. It was really kind of funny, especially when he kept trying to insist to an entire busload of insistent passengers that he was correct and we were wrong.

Earlier this year a go! airlines flight took off from Honolulu headed for Kona on the Big Island. It got to Kona and kept on going, and going, and going. Ground control was yelling at them over the radio with no response.
As the plane neared about fifteen minutes past Kona the pilots finally responded. They turned around and landed at Kona. Needless to say they were both suspended.
After listening to the cockpit voice recorder it was determined both pilots had fallen asleep. Both were fired.
Good thing they had plenty of fuel on board. :D:

Re: The runaway bus
Why don't you try something a little safer like a monorail?
I had a van driver get lost coming home from the airport. I had to give him detailed directions on how to get from my house to the freeway then on to Disneyland area. I leaned into the van and repeated the instructions, lol, so that they all knew when they would get lost. It is easy to get to my house form the 105 freeway. Follow the right lane at the end to Rosecrans and you have to exit, turn left and keep going until you pass Jack in the Box on the right. Are you sure? Sigh, men drivers.

Re: The runaway bus
I was in a shared van ride home from the airport. It was pretty obvious the driver wasn't familiar with the area as he started asking directions almost immediately. One guy in the van tried to take advantage of his lack of knowledge and started to direct the driver to his stop first. It was waaay beyond where the rest of us were going.mechurchlady wrote:I had a van driver get lost coming home from the airport.
I took over giving directions, got people dropped off in a logical sequence, acted as a tour guide, and made sure Mr. Advantage got dropped off last.
Nuck nuck nuck!!

Watch out for Super Shuttle. My shuttle driver got lost in my parent's area. They live in a place called "Rossmoor." It is between Los Alamitos and Seal Beach. The shuttle driver had to make a pit stop at the local gas station near my place. The driver asked me since I know where I am at and asked how to get to the freeways. The guy got on the 405 heading north. He was to drop me off at Long Beach Airport. He had to make a few quick exits to get me to my plane on time. He thought I was flying out of LAX. Now if he was smart he would have taken the 605 to the 105. If you go this way, you get to LAX in 30 minutes or less. The 405 becomes a parking lot after 3 pm. I did make it on time to the airport. I had a friend pick me up from the airport when I got home from vacation. :(

Re: The runaway bus
Hehe, I think I told this one before, but for any newbies.....
My Kid is riding home on the Little Yellow Bus on the same day as the tragic La Conchita Mudslide. It had been raining, and a road that runs parallel to the
5 Freeway had been blocked off the night before due to mud and flood.
I'm thinking my kid is late coming home, when we get a call from the school district bus supervisor...."Did you see Jamie on TV?" WHAT??????
Turns out the Bus Driver ignored the roadblock, gotten mired in, and he, my son, and another student had to be rescued by the swift water rescue team
It was on the NBC news and mentioned on Keith Olberman's countdown later that night.
Bus Driver Replaced.

Re: The runaway bus
I wish that could have happened to the Disney bus driver that ran me off the road. If something like that happens again, I am going to let the idiot hit me. Looking back, that was the better choice than letting him push me into the oncoming traffic lane. And, maybe he would have been fired.DisneyMom wrote:Bus Driver Replaced.
I say we just make the Monorail go everywhere. Surely, Siemens would be willing to sponsor a new line. "Welcome aboard the Animal Kingdom Monorail, presented by Siemens Transport."
Actually, if you look at what they built for my old hometown of Potland, they make some very nice looking trains.

For those from Portland, that's what 5th and Yamhill will look like after the new construction is over. My only real issue is safety... any time you put cars, bicycles, trains and buses in the same three lanes, you're asking for trouble. We'll see what happens.
