Wow, I hadn't even heard he was ill. I wasn't a fan of everything he wrote, but Andromeda Strain remains an all-time favorite.

RIP.

SAD..I have read some of his stuff. Liked some of it and not so much other works.

And the original move was really well done.

Too bad, he was a good writer.

Like Wombat said, they didn't really say that he was ill.

"Westworld" was always a favorite of mine. It was written and directed by Michael Crichton.

He always struck me as a Disney fan/admirer. I never saw him say it directly but there are a lot of parallels in some of his writing, in particular, "Westworld" and "Jurassic Park".

It seems that way to me, at least.

He was only 66. He wrote some great stuff.

I really loved State of Fear. And if you ready his stuff and then take in to consideration WHEN it was written, he really wrote about cutting edge technology. His book Congo was sort of hokey (ok the MOVIE was AWFUL) but the character in it was using a SAT phone to connect up her computer to a mainframe. Pretty cutting edge stuff for 1980!

I don't think it was that big of a leap at the time.

now writing about cell phones in a SCI-FI book..in the 1950's!

That was pretty advanced.
