Disney History Leason ( 2 )
(Part 1)
The history of the Haunted Mansion is steep in rumors and storytelling, but I am here to tell the truth... 100% Disney Truth...
It all began when Walt and the rest of the crew started to scout out the Florida Project riding high above Florida in the 234 MM (Walts personal plane). Some of the Imaginers noticed a landlocked house in an over grown section of the property that they where in the middle of buying, with curiosity in mind, the scout team marked it on their maps for a closer look.
About three days later the exploritory team found the house!
This is where the Haunted Mansion came into life. The team entered the house and found no signs of life from the building for years, but did find that the house had a past, a odd and possably dangerous past. When the team entered the main hallway they noticed that their had been what could have ben a noose hanging from the second floor balcony. This was not to deture the team, the scoured the house for more details on the whos and whats that lived in this Manor House. When the team entered the attic they had found a gold mine of details and information on the house.
To be continued....

Problem with that is that Yale Gracey (1910 - 1983) was a Disney Imagineer, writer, and layout artist for many Disney animated shorts, including classics such as The Three Caballeros and Fantasia. He designed many of the special effects for the Disney ride Haunted Mansion and the fire effect used in the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. He was honored by having the "Ghost Host" ("Master Gracey") named after him.

building it and making everything up is not much fun, but a "real"
story about it and the people make a much better story about it.
read the phantom manor story once, now thats a story.

Well you al got to the heart of my story before i could finish it. I know that Yale was the lead on the HM project... This story is one that wa told to me to prove a point. That point being is that the Haunted Mansion is the only attraction in all of Disney's storytelling that has no story. This is where the history lesson comes into play...drcorey wrote:well, he is telling one of the tales disney setup about the mansion.

Yale Gracey was the head of this project and he was, amongst other things, a perfectionist. One of his past times in his office was to play chess with other in the building. Other Imaginers would love to torment him by taking his chess pieces and moving them around when he was not at his desk. One day, and it all started with a practical joke, Yale found his chess pieces now being used on the HM model that was in his office.
This practical joke struck him in a funny way, so instead of adding a fidden mickey to the HM's around the world for his mark... He add Hidden Yale's... and by this i mean.. look at pictures of the WDW HM and you will see chess pieces used in the architecture.
So to end this history lesson.. Ill say... That Walt loved campfire stories and the fact that every time someone tells the same story, they add their own spin to it, and thats why the HM has no story behind the ride.

I heard Disney had no official story and it was made up by cms.
and of course we know the "ring" was left from a old post in the concrete.

This is true. Anything you ask a CM about the HM will be made up. They have no official story for anything their.drcorey wrote:I like the story of how the ring got into the walkway outside the HM.

Re: Disney History Leason ( 2 )
Actually, the Haunted Mansion was *supposed* to have a storyline, but it got lost in the process.
The shell of the building at Disneyland went up a long time before the attraction opened. The great delay was caused primarily by the distraction of the New York World Fair projects (not that I'm complaining, seeing how they worked out). But before the Imagineers came back from New York with concepts like omnimovers, humanoid audio-animatronics, and bulk loading, there was a very different Mansion in the plans....
Imagine if you will, being led on a tour of this gracious old mansion by a live tour guide, rather like the Jungle Cruise without boats. (And remember, the Jungle Cruise wasn't funny originally.) As groups passed from one room to the next, listening to the story, things would begin to happen. At first, it was just odd noises; then "things" would pop out of the woodwork briefly; and finally your tour guide would be magically replaced with a talking ghoul, much like The Great Movie Ride.
I have the details here on my reverence shelf (somewhere), be glad to look it all up if anyone cares.
