Fantasmic in 2009?
It's been a while since I've posted here, but as I'm planning my next trip back to the world...
Anyone have any insight into why Fantasmic! is getting shorted SO BADLY in 2009? Two nights a week? Come on, it's standing room only a lot of the time as it is!
Is this just an effort to cut back operating costs, or is it to push more people over to the new AI show?
Just how much magic is Disney management looking to sell out with?

It has to do with the new AI show. From what I have heard, it will be the finale 5 days a week (with Fantasmic the other 2 nights a week).

I will be your guide for this magical journey into the movies. It's the perfect job for me, because I love movies! Is everybody ready? Great, because it's showtime. Ready when you are, CB!

yeah, it's as Joanna says. And the thing is, the AI theater will only hold 1,000 people, compared to Fantasmic, which holds a LOT more. But, from what I've heard, they're going to have screens outside the AI theater, showing what's happening inside.

Actually, I don't think cutting back operating costs and pushing people over to AI are mutually exclusive. I seem to recall that Fantasmic! costs about $30K to put on per evening. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantasmic# ... on_facts_2EmptyCinema wrote:It's been a while since I've posted here, but as I'm planning my next trip back to the world...

I can't see AI being close to that. Plus since it seats 6,500 guests and 2,500 SRO it keeps a lot of folks out of the plush shops and dinning venues.

Some well placed Entertainment people i have met and talked with told me off the record that their is multpile reasons for the cut back....
A: Show running cost is WAY to high for slow cap nights like it is in the winter
B: Fantasmic is over 10 years old and has not had a major PM / Referb in that time
C: The lic. agreement between Simon ( AI ) states that the company shall share a 50% stake in all merch sold, and have exclusive rights to unnamed future AI events
D: ( This is my spin on it ) Just wait for Fox's contract with AI to come up for renewel... i think I see ABC going for a bid war.

Just a shame that one of the greatest, if not the greatest, show at WDW is ending up on the chopping block like that.
Re: Fantasmic in 2009?
The funny part is that AI has just about made its run.
I notice less people watching it each year. Or making it a must-see.... its getting to be something we watch if nothing else is on.
Why would Disney latch on, at the waning end of a show?

Why would Universal build a Harry Potter park now?markstudy wrote:The funny part is that AI has just about made its run.
