A Marsupial Appearance?

Post by Big Wallaby » Tue Sep 23, 2008 3:14 am

I've been in talks with a friend of mine who works for an airline, and as long as he can swing it, he wants to take me plus a guest (probably Shorty82, because the Lil' Wallaby just wouldn't be interested, she'd rather visit her family back home) to Disneyland to renew his and his wife's Annual Pass. We're looking at early- to mid-December or January.

We're working out the kinks now, but it looks like it will be a three-, four- or five-day trip. I know a few of you from Disneyland would like to meet me, and I would like to meet as many of you as I can. Elena and Elyse have already called dibs on being my tour guide, but the rest of you are welcome to help.

It's kinda sad, really... I lived on the West Coast my entire life until just under two years ago, and the last time I was at Disneyland, I was about five years old. So I am really excited to visit the Original. Shorty82 has never been there before, so essentially it will be new to both of us.

The visitors in question will be myself, Shorty82, Airlinemichael (my friend who works for an airline, I am STILL waiting for him to post stories), possibly my dad, and you never know, Little Wallaby may want to come too.

DLR CM's and area SGT Members: I would like to set up a nice lunch or dinner where we can meet up as a group and have a great time... on or off Disney property. As far as sending your contact info, you are welcome to do that now or later as the date approaches. PM's aren't the best way as that will clog my inbox, but send a note to [email protected], and I'll file your info on my phone. Who knows, if it's the right time of day, I might even try calling you.

WDW CM's and SGT Members: Would anyone be interested in coming along? If we get enough people to go, especially if we do it in the really slow season, I bet we might be able to get some good group fares. If so, send a message to the above address, [email protected] and post here as well and I'll see what kinds of fares we could get with what numbers of people, and what days. I understand if very few... if any... are able to make it.

Out of the area SGT Members: Those of you I already know I would love to have you join us, and those of you I haven't yet met I'd love to meet if you're over that way if it would be easier for you to get to the Los Angeles area.

At this time I don't have any plans of going to Sea World or Universal as I don't know of anyone from those parks that I know here (correct me if I am wrong, though I might have to come see and comfort some of you at KBF.

I'll probably use this thread to hash out the itinerary, because I would really like feedback. Also, if anyone has any advice how to take the parks Commando-style then I would love advice. Of the five days, I expect to spend three or four at the parks, perhaps one day outside the parks.

One thing I would like to do... does anyone here know any DL Monorail Pilots and/or managers/leads? I would love to see if I could talk a manager into letting me take a Mark V (or even the Mark VII) for a lap. Long shot? Absolutely! But it's worth a try. I wonder if they have a RFID key tag system like WDW's Monorails. I wonder if my Monorail key would work if they do... :D:

Wow. A visit by some of our WDW regulars to our little tiny resort ;) ? That IS something that we can celebrate during the 'Year of a Million Mickey Balloons' (aka the "What Will You Celebrate?" Celebration) :D: . All of our First Visit celebrations next year seemed to be aimed towards small children, but, nevertheless we will find a way to celebrate this achievement :p: .

glendalais's rational side: You guys do know that you can renew the APs onli...

Hush, you!

Oooh, I smell an occasion to eat at The Blue Bayou.

I'll shoot off an e-mail later. Though I think you have my info already.

KBF has its charms, I guess. Disney CMs get a huge (50%) discount on tickets , if that helps.

Well, DCA is starting to approach a one-day park, if very slowly.

Other than that, I recommend RideMax, it's what I use when I want to do the parks Commando-style on my day off.

3 to 4 days at DL will give you plenty of time as long as your not there during the Christmas break. Early Dec or Jan after the first week will be fairly slow, remember Haunted Mansion has the holiday overlay which I love but it will close after the first week in Jan to remove it so if your a Hm fan plan around that. If your going to be at the parks on a Fri, Sat or Sun I might be able to make a trip down since I now have those days off and I'm always good for a trip to DL.

If you want a comando attack on the parks I know how to do it. I can give you step by step routing to hit pretty much everything in two days, with three you wont miss a thing and can probably do a lot of stuff more than once. If your interested pm me and Ill write it up and I can even hand deliver it first week of november sine I will be at WDW.

Once you post your dates Ill email and let you know if I can make it down during your visit.

I concur. You'll have plenty of time, you can do most things (everything if it's slow enough) in two days. I took my family from out of town through the parks on two days in summer and we did all the important things and a few nice extras. Plus, remember some of your SGT members might have a few tricks up their sleeves.

Let us know the dates as soon as you know cause I'm hoping to make it to WDW in January and it would be a bummer to miss one of our welcoming committee cause we're in each others park.

And I doubt you'll be able to drive a Mark V monorail. They may not be around by the time you make it out, only Mark VIIs were running yesterday although I think that's the first day they've accomplished that. By the time you make it out here the Mark Vs will probably be retired. And, I do know a couple managers in Tomorrowland (that's who runs our monorails is Tomorrowland attractions) so I can ask, doesn't hurt, right? I'll ask when it gets closer though in case the managers change.

Wallaby - that sure is nice of you to invite Shorty82 along with you. He's a great guy and lots of fun to hang out with (as you know). I sure wish we were coming out in that time frame (Dec-Jan). We're scheduling a trip to DL April 25-29 with 3 days at the parks (first visit since I was a kid). So, if your plans should change and you can't make it until late April..... be sure and let me know.

Svickersart - I may PM you to ask if you'd be willing to share that commando touring plan. Sounds like just what I need to keep my family on track. We plan on doing the Magic Morning at least once while we're there, so I'm sure that will help us cram in all the attractions that we want to see, but I don't know which attractions are the most popular and generate long lines at DL.
Any suggestions are welcome! :)

Hey Wallaby - I think your flight plan might take you right over Pensacola. How about slowing down just above stall speed and throwing out a tow rope as you cruise by? :D: I'm jealous!

That'll limit the dates we can go a little (or so I hope). I really want to go on the original Haunted Mansion.

I would love to stop in Pensacola but I don't see how I can swing it. I'd like to visit my family and friends up there.

Thanks. I know I'm going to need it and I believe BW will too.

One thing I really want to do is the "Walk in Walt's Footsteps Tour". I'm really looking forward to seeing the original park and seeing the one park Walt himself oversaw the construction and running of.

Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.

We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious…
and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

ooh ... so tempting ... alas, budget-wise, I probably can't do this trip. Not to mention the better half would kill me if I went to DL without her, and she's out of vacation time for this year.

Let me know when the dates are set in stone and when you want to do this tour.. I book the tours, so I'll get you guys the cast discount, at least. (I can talk to my managers, and see about getting freebies, since we are part of the same management, and they WANT us to go on the tours, and then I can come WITH you guys!!!)
