There's already an "Embarrassing Employee moments" thread, but I thought just for fun I'd open this thread up for similar stories, no matter where they happened. I bet there are some embarrassing but fun stories out there just waiting to be told. And hey, we're all human, so don't be shy.
And I wouldn't ask for what I'm not willing to do myself. Fortunately (or rather, unfortunately) I have plenty of embarrassing moments to choose from. The top of the pick, though, has to be this one:
I was home for the summer after my first year of college, and my then-girlfriend and I had been invited over to dinner at her best friend's house -- the best friend's whole family was mutual friends with my family, her parents being like a second "mom & dad" (in fact, I still call them "Mom & Dad II" to this day), so it was a fun, casual time.
After dinner, the mom had to go pick up the dad (who was a pilot) from the airport, leaving me, my girlfriend, and the other girl alone in the house. (Don't worry, we were all good Baptist kids.) (Most of the time.) Well, the two girls soon conspired together to throw a bucket of water on me, drenching me from head to toe. I took it in stride, not getting upset -- just vowing slow and painful revenge at some unspecified point in the future.
They immediately felt guilty and volunteered to put my clothes in the dryer. (Yes, I realize this reads like a bad porn plot, but don't get your hopes up.) So I went in the parents' bedroom, put on one of the dad's bathrobes and handed my soggy clothes through the door, and then sat down to wait for them to be dried.
After 15 or 20 minutes, mom returns with dad, and they go straight to their bedroom to find me sitting on the bed in his bathrobe!
Naturally, since the washer and dryer were in the basement, they had not seen or talked to either of the girls to get an explanation. It was one of those very awkward, "this looks bad but there really is an innocent explanation" moments. The parents were cool and didn't get their feathers ruffled, but I still cringe thinking about it.
Oh, and the revenge? Was sweet. And still is. I never actually did anything to either of them, but I reminded them repeatedly that revenge was coming when they least expected it. I kept that up for years, with special emphasis right before weddings or other major, public events. The revenge was letting them twist in the wind, not knowing when I'd strike back.
I'm still friends with them both, though we live hundreds of miles apart and don't see each other often. And yes, I still remind them occasionally that I haven't forgotten, even 25 years later, and that I may yet strike back.
Okay, your turn!!
