Back from the World... SG/SCM reports
Back from 9 days in the World and surprisingly have very few SG/SCMs to report..
SG: Kid on "Tower of Terror" who kept saying, "Man, this ride sucks.." and increasing volume because no one paid any attention until about four unrelated people yelled "shut the hell up" almost in unison..
SG: Woman at Chef Mickey's loudly complaining that she couldn't find the "Mickeyroni and Cheese" while standing directly in front of it .
SG: Not really stupid, just weird. Kid who kept jumping around yelling "surprise" at everything for no apparent reason.. He wasn't in anyones way, just odd..
SCM (well, not really stupid): I wore all name tags like I said I would and it did get a lot of attention. Three CM's on different occasions mistook me for a CM. The funniest was at "Small World". Girl at the greeter station sees me come in and says "You come here on your day off?" I just said, "you bet" and kept going. By the time I got down to the load area she had rotated down there as well and she said "Man, I still can't believe you'd come here on your day off.."
Do they still sell the "Guest of Honor" badges? I didn't look for them but the number of CM's who didn't seem to realize what they were made me wonder..

Re: Back from the World... SG/SCM reports
Sorry, for double-posting but wanted this part separate from the SG report:
Funniest story of the trip (kind of long):
Backstory: Necessary to understand the humor of the moment. There is an OLD joke: What do you get when you cross an Elephant and a Rhino. Elephino.
On the old "Muppets Tonight" TV show they had a bit with Seymore and Pepe doing that joke and it got no laughs and then make it a running joke by cutting back to them periodically attempting to explain the joke to the audience. It was very funny. My wife and I quote that bit back and forth all the time..
The Actual Story: On "Jungle Cruise" while in line on of the CM's gets on the intercom to do some spieling and then says "What do you get when you cross an Elephant....."
At that point my wife and I looked at each other and yelled out "Elephino". Lots of laughs from people in line and CM's. It seemed to throw off the CM who was spieling a little (as he was laughing a bit, too) but we couldn't help it...
My daughter was highly embarrassed.. We told her not to worry as it will only get worse as she gets older..

I read on another board that they no longer sell the GOH name tags at the Christmas Store at Downtown Disney which is where we used to get them. I also tried ordering through Giftsofalifetime.com and she said they used to get them from the Christmas Store but they could no longer get them either. :(

I don't have the GOH name badge. But I can't even begin to count the number of times I was in the parks (on my days off), and guests picked me out of the crowd to ask me a question! For example: I was sitting in Frontierland waiting for 2nd Spectro (in normal clothes) and I was asked questions by 2 seperate parties. I'm starting to wonder if I don't have WDW CM tatooed on my forehead.
And for the record, I did answer the questions. I'm a nice CM/day-off guest.

That happens to me all the time! I don't have a GoH tag either, and I have no idea how people decide that I must know the answers to their questions. I've had guests at Epcot come up to me and ask for directions, people at the Magic Kingdom ask for park hours, and the like. The best was an older couple on one of the FriendShips who asked for restaurant recommendations. I was happy to share info, of course, but I was mystified how they knew I'd know!joanna71985 wrote:I don't have the GOH name badge. Maybe we really DO have WDW CM tattoos. We just can't see them.

Re: Back from the World... SG/SCM reports
The regulars here know I get asked CM questions a lot, and while I do wear a GOH badge, so does the rest of my family, and I'm still the one who gets the questions, although I probably look the least like a CM... The best I've been able to figure out is this: if you look even partway like you know where you are, where you're going, and what's going on around you, you put yourself ahead of approx. 98% of the rest of the guests!! They then assume you must work there if you don't look completely lost!Amphigorey wrote:That happens to me all the time! My favorite such encounter is probably still the two guys who, even after I assured them I was not a cast member, asked, "Then what do you do for Disney?"

I'm weirdly untrusting about those GOH badges. Why must someone buy an "honor?" An honor has to be earned. Honor service men and women, honor MAW kids, etc.
On a Board X-like site, a family bragged about how they all bought and wore them and told other guests they were filming a movie and said they had VIP to bypass all the ride lines, which people let them do. No wonder the stores stopped selling them. And good for them too.

That struck me as strange that you could BUY a GOH tag. One shouldn't declare oneself a "guest of honor". Good thing they stopped selling them.

"Yes, sir, but the water is fake."
