Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince opening postponed....

Post by lady ulrike » Fri Aug 15, 2008 5:27 pm

it's been postponed to July 17, 2009. It was announced yesterday. There's already a petition.

I think that we should spread around and make known that we will not see it opening weekend if it does not open in November as originally scheduled.

Especially since their reason for moving it is basically that there's no major movie releases for next summer, so it's all about money.

It almost sounds like a planned witholding of the release so that the fans would get up in arms, thus generating publicity for free.

Then they will "relent" and release the movie! (watch it be in time for christmas!)

this series is already running old. how long has the 7th book been out? year? year and a half? at least. the thing in universal maybe cool when it opens but i think the harry potter gambit has been run for the most part. all the books i have are now locked in a box in the garage.

Theirs a new series of books out featering Herminie. The basis of the book is that She is telling stories that she is reading from Rune Stones.....

As far as the movie goes... doesnt the planned opening of the new HP land at the spinning globe happen around the time of the new release date??

No, the new land is opening 2010, the movie will now open 2009. But still, it's a push back of 8 months because they figure that they'll make more money that way. So personally, I'm going to boycott Warner Bros. movies, they won't make anymore money off me. And a lot of Harry Potter fans have said that they'll only see it once in theaters instead of the multiple times they would've seen it before. And then there's the boycott opening weekend idea. The thing Warner Bros doesn't get is that while there are lots of people who watch the movie, the really big fans may watch it 5 or more times, if they all see it only once....well it'll be the worst box office take for any Harry Potter movie.

I'm a big fan of the books and the films, but I'm having a hard time getting too worked up about this. The "they're only doing this to make more money" argument never does too much to move me -- hey, they're a business, that's what they're supposed to do. Don't get me wrong, if this move generates enough backlash that it threatens the bottom line, they'll move it back, so more power to you if you can get them to change. But frankly, they know we're going to see the movie no matter what's threatened, so I'm not holding my breath.

True, and since we have read the books, we can wait for the DVD release!

I think some of the CG effects are so bad they are using this as an excuse to re-do them. That's my conspiracy theory ;)

Then again I don't really care, I have never read the books and I have not seen the movies.

WHAT??? Why would they do this? Shouldn't the movie be all done by now?

I will be your guide for this magical journey into the movies. It's the perfect job for me, because I love movies! Is everybody ready? Great, because it's showtime. Ready when you are, CB!
