Not sure of the facts on this, but I heard somewhere that InBev doesn't care for the theme parks. Hopefully they won't go the way of Pleasure Island...

EDIT: And having looked at the article, I continue to wonder.

I actually had to stop class yesterday and moderate a discussion on this development.

Yes, I was in the middle of Baroque art, but nobody wanted to look at Bernini, and they were all kind of bzzz-bzzzzing all over the room. Sometimes you just gotta go with the flow!

Turns out, many of my students are workers at Busch Gardens and AI (no surprise, considering the proximity) and are scared to death at the thought of literally hundreds of jobs that were perfect for students simply vanishing. Nobody seemed to think they would get bought by another park, and were fairly sure that they didn't want to work for Six Flags, etc.

Honestly, though, the neighborhood surrounding the park is going downhill at a rapid pace. Any hotels within walking distance usually rent by the hour, and its not safe to walk to any nearby restaurants. Yes, there are good areas to the north and east, but you have to go around 5 miles in each direction.

Anyway, there's some really long faces in town, both from college workers at the parks and the management as well. I feel bad for them and wish I could do more than just stop lecturing and let them vent. :(

Well, you know that if they start making the employees do push-ups or dance a jig, then they are on the way out!

The tone of the article sounds like they are gonna do the bottom line profit, focus on the beer sales, and probably get rid of the parks!

It's usually not fun to be acquired. I went through two. The first was pretty straight forward where the new owners came in and said this is the way it's going to be.

The second was more like the Thought (cough IBM cough) Police were hiding under your desk. What a bunch of weasels. We had the last laugh when the weasels found out we were going to be sold again and they couldn't go back to their old jobs.

heres what the Sentinel has to say about the whole thing. I dont really think they are just going to close up shop with over $200,000,000 in profits. they would sell the parks first and there are going to be people interested in buying. It might turn out to be a good thing in the end. As my Gf says "change is good". Theme parks are a hugh industry in central Florida with Disney being the biggest draw but for some people its a few days at WDW and days at the other parks in the area. My original plan a few years back while planning a vacation to Florida was to hit all the area parks, but to date I just havent made it past WDW. We are planning a trip for 2010, after potterland is open and we are hoping to stay at WDW and venture out to the other parks in the area, right now its just getting the money together to do it, and we have been kinda pricing weddings with Disney also.
