CM opinions on EMH?

Post by svickersart » Thu Jun 19, 2008 11:09 am

Theres a thread on one of the fan sites discussing EMH and many people say to avoid EMH and even the park with MEMH because of crowds. I will be at WDW Oct 30 through Nov 7, I have been there this same time in the past and in mid to late Aug and we always hit the parks with MEMH (there were no EEMH) and did well, not too crowded and did everything we wanted. I plan on experiencing the EEMH since I havent in the past and again I have planned to start my days at the parks with MEMH. There are so many "experts" on these fan sites and their logic doesnt make sense and I think a lot has to do with time of year. I have found the first week of Nov to be quite pleasant at WDW and since I will be alone I can do as I please but I would like to hear from those that are there daily what your opinions are of EMH. Should the parks with MEMH be avoided those days? Some say dont even go to that park if there are MEMH and some say hit MEMH and hop to another park. For EEMH they are saying its too crowded and you wont get anything done. Park hours are early that time of year so theres no 2-3 in the morning and I do want to give them a shot but if the crowds are going to unmanageable I can change things up a bit.

Thanks for the help
Steve

Hi Steve,
We'll miss you by one day - we're arriving the day after you leave. I can't comment on MEMH vs EEMH and crowds, but I can warn you that the week you will be there is also Jersey Week, so the parks are liable to be crowded. Public Schools in New Jersey close down the last few days of the week, and lots of families also take the first part of the week off and head for Orlando.

I, too, would like to hear a CM's view on how crowded it gets at EE (early entry) and EMH since we're planning on a couple of those while we're there. We usually travel in Dec and Jan, and have found EE to be very useful for hitting the most popular attractions before the crowds arrive.

I was there a couple of years ago during Jersey week, and while I found the Jerseyites a bit loud they were friendly for the most part and crowds were not bad so I decieded to give it another go.

While we are on the subject of crowded Disney parks have any CM's noticed the parks being slower this year compared to years past? With the economy in the crapper people are not traveling as much so they say. I didnt thing DL was too crowded last weekend, but it seemed about the same as the last couple of years I was there in June.

Thanks
Steve

I work at MK, and I have never really had the EMH there be too bad. In fact, I worked the EMH for Christmas back in 2006, and it was not bad at all (of course, maybe the fact that it was raining had something to do with it).

In my opinion, I think the MK EMH is the best one to go to (as there is the most stuff available).

For the most part ( and yes I work alot of EMH nights at the diffrent parks ) about an hour or hour and half after park close to the normal SG's, the resort SG's have it good. Parks go from 50k to about 3k crowed size. Everyone i have worked is virtually a walk on after 12am at MK. Only the die hards stay past 1am.

I still think APs should qualify for EMH. That might be a biased opinion though.

In the morning there are fewer rides and attractions open that at night. The problem with boards it they do not look at the benefits of being in the parks. It gives you that extra time to get a GAC, go to the bathroom, go shopping and most importantly be first in line at the train station, farther into the park and at the entrance to other lands when the park officially opens. While other guests are at Main Street you can be at Fantasyland ready to dash to Big Thunder, Toontown and Splash Mountain. Everyone else is at the from of AK while you are right there near Kali Rapids and Everest.

Yes more people might be there but not likely. They spread rumours to keep people away from the good things. The 30th will be Halloween time and on Monday the park will be back to its usual slow time until near thanksgiving.

Here is the schedule.

OCTOBER 2008
Morning Extra Magic Hours
Magic Kingdom - October 30
Fantasyland and Tomorrowland rides are open. This puts you near Toontown and Frontierland.

Evening Extra Magic Hours
Epcot - October 31
Halloween so you get an extra hour of shopping and Halloween in Epcot.
Living with the Land, Mission: SPACE®, Soarin', Spaceship Earth, Test Track, Honey, I Shrunk the Audience, Journey Into Imagination With Figment, Mexico-Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros, Norway-Maelstrom, The American Adventure

NOVEMBER 2008
Morning Extra Magic Hours
Magic Kingdom - November 6
Fantasyland and Tomorrowland rides are open. This puts you near Toontown and Frontierland.

Epcot - November 4
Living with the Land, Mission: SPACE®, Soarin', Spaceship Earth, Test Track
That day puts you nearer UK and Maelstrom for example.

Disney's Hollywood Studios - November 1
Muppet Vision 3-D, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster® Starring Aerosmith, Star Tours, The Twilight Zone

Disney's Animal Kingdom - November 3
DINOSAUR, Expedition Everest, It's Tough to be a Bug!®, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Pangani Forest Exploration Trail®
That should put your near Kali Rapids and thus beating the crowds.

Evening Extra Magic Hours
These allow you an hour to linger when most people are going home. It allows you time to leisurely exit the park and shop. A lot more rides are open.

Magic Kingdom - November 2
Epcot - November 7
Disney's Hollywood Studios - November 5
Disney's Animal Kingdom - November 4

In summation the boards are full of windbags who do not understand parks. The extra hours give you that extra time to leisurely walk in the parks, have everyone ready to ride rides (bathroom breaks), and all the maps and GACs and other info gathered. The crowd will be thinner except for halloween. Even in busiest time it allows you that extra hour to get to a better place in the park and beat some people to the great stuff.

Thanks Churchy, thats my opinion also. I've only done the MEMH and I have always done quite a bit and like you said been where I wanted to be when the park opens to the public. The logic of some of the posters was everyone in the resorts (and one person quoted 30,000 people) will be hitting the MEMH park then the public is let in so its really crowded. Then for EEMH its resort guests plus public that dont leave but cant ride for part of the time and limited attractions making for long lines. I'm going to stick with the MEMH like I planned and since I'm going alone things are going to be much easier. I would like to hear opinions on the EEMH since I have never done them in the past. I would love to hang out at MK until 2 am but the latest is stays open while I'm there is 11:00. DAK is the park I really want to spend EEMH at since every time I've gone it closes at 5:00 so I'm looking forward to a few hours later, want to do KS later since I have always done it mornings, seems we make a circle and never get back there in the afternoon.

KS probably won't be open during EEMH when you are there, it always closes a half hour before sunset.

I can only talk about what Mission: Space is like during EEMH, but I can tell you it was never busy. There was never a long line, the queue was never filled, especially the later it got.
