TinkerbellSweetHeart wrote:OK, so i dont have an embarassing story...We looked forward to riding nemo with my neice ALL YEAR long. She was maybe 5 at the time and we are close, she is like my own child. So we rode every ride together, and when it came time to nemo she asked me will they show the sharks?? I told her yes, handed her a flashlight, and explainded to here that it was just a ride and when she saw how cool it was the sharks wouldnt be so scary. Well forget the sharks that angler fish comes outta nowhere and BAM! she is screaming and screaming and screaming...so i could see my sister *her mom* in the clamobile next to me and i stood up, blanced my self on the side and lifted her over. Yes it was dangerous but there was no way anyone other than her mom could calm her down. They never said anything to us...maybe because they saw hysterical she was, and how well i balanced myself on that ride!! Either way after the ride let out i grabbed her hand and joked with her and everything was ok!! ((hoped you like the long story))

I hope the lesson that the mother learned from this was that she should not let her sister take her child on any more rides unsupervised!!!
OMG.
The Nemo ride isn't even very long, she couldn't wait it out?! Good grief.

I moved this thread to the Newsroom because it began with a quote from another board -- not a statement from an SGT member. Any thread that begins with an outside link or quote qualifies as "news" here.
Of course if this ticks off too many of you, we could always change the policy again, but this *was* the reason the Newsroom was created in the first place.

I would also ask that when you communicate to someone that what they did was stupid, you not invoke SGT. I don't like putting out fires. I've had that... opportunity... a couple times now, and it's never fun.
But I agree, that move was idiotic, at the best. Omnimover + appendage stuck in the wrong place = one less appendage for SG to worry about

Holy poop!! That is about the dumbest thing, that ranks up there with standing up on the matterhorn or thunder mountain!
It was interesting that she gave her a FLASHLIGHT! so that tells me that they knew in advance there might be a problem! She should have road with "mom" in the first place!

Some parents carry a tiny flashlight that lights a small area like a penlight for the kid if the ride gets scary or breaks down. Kids tend to relax if they can see some form of light.
Next time no SGT Award as she may not know what SGT stands for so say Poor Parenting Award

I guess that when I hear such things I flash back to the incident on Spaceship Earth where a child in the front of a car and the parents in the back. Durring the uphill climb at the beginning, the child became upset sop the father tried to lift the child from the front to the back. Just an easy "lift over the seat back". But due to the steep uphill climb when the father lifted high enough to get the childs legs over the seat, he was over extended and the child went right over the father and onto the track behind the car where the child was hit and trapped under the following car. If I remember correctly he lost a leg. It wasn't that the strength of the parent as this same father could easily lift the child over his head and over a carseat. But the physics of the steep climb and the tall seats put the child at full arm extension at an angle behind the fathers head. Shortly after that was when the monitors were installed in the uphill climb that used to be a dark tunnel that set up the "going back in time to the dawn of man" theme. Now we are treated to safety speils and blinded by the bright monitors and thus the first scene (projected on the wall) seems to be darker (since our eyes had no time to adjust to darkness).
Of course this was from the last incarnation of the ride as I have not seen the newest incarnation. But the physics of a SG action have not changed.

Getting into the physics of it (and my limited knowledge thereof), I would think they were lucky that it was only the kid who went into the track, and they were lucky it was only his leg that he lost.
This is the reason I hate SG behavior. Not because it's inconvenient, but because it's dangerous. Like standing on the Safari. I've figured out why they are so willing to do it. If they fall from the truck, they'll just fall into that nice, soft mud on the ride path, so it won't hurt.
Just ask the lady that jumped from the truck last Saturday. The problem was not the fire. It was only the catalyst.
