Great article - lots of good information.

Those and other quotes in the article point out how impatient people have become and how they hate standing in line and having to wait patiently.

I don't think I'm going to like the part in the Toy Story Mania ride where guests toss eggs at farm animals. You know SGs are going to go home and start throwing eggs at their pets. El Stupidos!! :twisted:

I think the flaw lies in trying to tie it into real auditions for the show. Can you imagine the pageant parents and stage mothers that will be pushing their kids though this?

I can't imagine that little Timmy or Tammy will have a happy day the rest of the day in WDW if some tourist judge is hard on their singing, can you?

My daughter will so want to do this- but she won't be 14 until the end of 09 thankfully. I would not want her to tie a negative experience of getting rejected with Walt Disney World.

From reading the average SG comments on the internet, I don't want any of them sitting at a table and playing Simon Cowell and making my daughter cry in the happiest place on Earth.

And she can sing. She wants to try out for the real show someday- which scares me even more.

I think this is a bad idea. Not the concept of the attraction- but the way it's tied into the real one.

Why don't they just give away a prize to the winner at the end of each show? A small shopping spree or special shirt that says "I'm a Walt Disney World Idol?"

I don't think they thought this one through. They're underestimating how competitive parents can get.

I agree with you on the judges thing. I think it should be Cast Members who do that full time. It should be people who have a history in music, and can be tactful. Part of the attraction of the show is that you have people who are laying it all out on the line, then Simon comes in and blasts them a la this video or this video from BBC's Top Gear. I can't understand why a guest would want to put themselves through that.

Well, as an adult who has had a little training in singing but didn't get to go for the degree due to circumstances, I can see the appeal of the show.

I was on superstar television and also made it to the 'hotseat' on WWTBAMPI during their runs. So it could be fun.

If as you say, they had castmembers as judges, gave away fun and silly little prizes, and didn't at all make it tied in any way shape or form to auditioning for the real show.

People will go crazy wanting a FOTL pass for future regional auditions. This is just nuts IMO.

i remember who wants to be a millionaire at DCA and am avoiding that show if I ever go but no worries as I will never go to WDW again so am safe.

I agree with some of the other posters! A prize at the end of the day, or a gift card to DTD? and for heavens sake, use CM's as judges!! I can see some Judges that know one of the contestants, tearing up the other contestants!

How could that be fun?

Why didn't they do a superstar television version where you get to be in Star Wars movies??? Or better even yet, POTC??? Can you imagine people getting to be Will Turner and Jack Sparrow!now THAT could be fun. . .

The more I think about this - them tying the themepark attraction in with the real show auditions the more it frightens me!

This sounds like a collosally bad idea. I do not watch American Idol because I do not think that networks should be making money off of publicly humiliating people. I'm glad for the chance they give some genuinely talented singers, but let's face it, most people watch it just to see Simon be mean to somebody. In a culture that has glorified cruelty, what do they think the guest judges will do? The whole point of Disney is to escape the real world, we are told that when we train, that this is a Fantasy-land and we are not supposed to remind them of world at large, so how does this fit into that vision?

I do like the Toy Story idea, although I have mixed feelings about how accommodating they are being to a lack of attention span, but I suppose you have to keep up with your consumer base. (It might do these whipper snappers some good to learn some patience!_
