I Am Legend

Tonight, Little Wallaby and I went to I Am Legend. Great movie, and it's very accurate to how the world is going to end, in my personal opinion... not the zombies, but rather the whole "We've used an old microbe to cure cancer, let's give it to everyone! CRAP! IT'S MUTATED!" Very good, startling in some places and hard to watch because of the whole theme.

We arrived a bit late, during the previews, so we didn't see who was in the theater. Imagine my surprise when we were sitting there watching the end credits and some parents with their five-year-old kid passed by us. It is not a kids movie.

Why would you want to let your kids see that? It's a rather depressing movie, you have a lot that you're going to have to explain to your kids, and there are things they do to startle you in the movie (I jumped a couple times), why would you want to take your kids to that? A 5 year old can't tell if that's real or not. How sad.

Parents like that... I won't say what should be done to them. If you're going to expose your kids to stuff like that, at least save it for at home on video, and not in a theater at Disney World.

I wouldnt even think of taking The EVIL BEAST to something like that. I was shocked enuf in December when we (donnie and I) went to see that Pink Floyd cover band and there was a munchkin younger then mine in front of us. Poor baby had his hands over his ears and his head buried under his coat. VERY LOUD AND BRIGHT. Quite a few folks were talking about that one. And that concert ended at 11;30 PM and wouldnt you know that the ding dongs stayed right to the end with him and his maybe 9 year old bro. Guess who didnt do well in school the next day. (well they could be home-schooled but still...they had to be wiped on Thurs.)

You should read Stephen King's The Stand. Don't bother with the TV movie by the same name.

The Walkin' Dude gets his in the last book of The Dark Tower series.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but just finished the book.
Just the part about the dog (in the movie) was probably more than a child needs to see.

Havn't seen it yet, but I did like the original version. It was "the Omega Man" with Charlton Heston.

Just watched the movie last night and found it most entertaining. I don't see how that's a kid's movie either, but parents these days totally suck, so I'm not shocked...

Just remember -- it's all about the parents' needs. If they want to see a movie and don't want to get a sitter, who cares if it traumatizes the little one?

Maybe next they can find a Saw or Hannibal marathon for the kiddies. :mad:

The Tommyknockers was great. Some of the books in the Dark Tower series really drag but overall, it was a good read. After you read them you'll understand when I say Oy deserved a lot better.

I would not consider taking my two younger kids to this movie although my 19 yr. old is drooling with anticipation along with Cloverfield. If there was ever a movie that was on the cusp of acceptable for one or all of the kids, I would go see it first and see how bad it was and then make my decision. For example, when Jurassic Park came out I did this and it was a very hard decision for me to make because I had a six year old who on one hand really wasn't old enough to see it but absolutely lived for dinosaurs and saw the 750 ads on tv for it. During the parts I did not want him to see, I told him I had to go to the bathroom (he probably thought I had a bladder the size of a peanut) so he didn't actually see the full version until much later. But a movie like I am Legend? No way.
