Question About Casting

Post by RockettowerPlaza » Wed Jan 09, 2008 7:16 pm

Hi there,

Newbie here, although I've lurked from time to time. I have a question for you guys about a unique situation.

I was an AP from 2004-2007 (couldn't afford to renew this year, unfortunately), and have been to WDW 30+ times. I'm 27. I'm currently looking for a full time job in Orlando so I can get out of freezing Buffalo. I also really want to work PT nights and weekends as a CM. There's just one problem...

Four years ago (8/04) I took my 18-year old cousin to WDW to make her feel better after she failed to graduate (she has learning disabilities, and...I later found out, emotional ones as well). Two nights before we were scheduled to leave, she went berserk in our room at CBR. She kicked me and ran out like a lunatic. I had never seen her like that, and called my aunt (her mom) freaking out. Apparently she also has/had emotional problems and was on medication...which she forgot (real helpful). So while I'm wondering where she is and trying to figure out how to calm her down, I get a knock at the door.

It's the MoD, and he told me that my cousin approached a security guard at the pool and said I attacked her (I have never been so mortified in my life, especially being the goody two-shoes that I am, and since I was just kicked by my cousin!). I was still visibly upset from the whole ordeal, and I explained that my cousin had emotional issues that I was unaware of and she did not have her medicine, which caused her to be unstable. I offered to let him speak to her mother (how embarrassing this was), and he declined.

He I guess understood and put her in her own room for the night (she returned to the room I paid for the next night - I checked out early because I was so freaked out). To make this worse, the room was booked by my brother's CM friend. I felt so terrible. If I had known about my cousin's problem, I never would have taken her on a trip without her mom to control her.

Anyway, luckily my brother's friend was only spoken to, and did not get in trouble (she is high on the totem pole in entertainment and was up for a promotion that, thankfully, she still got).

So my question is, when I finally move to Orlando, 4 years and more than 10 additional trips to WDW after this "incident", will I not be hired by casting due to this issue? Is this some kind of black mark that taints me whenever I stay onsite in a WDW hotel (ie shows up on my room reservation), and will follow me to casting, ruining my chances of working for WDW?

I hate to air my dirty laundry on my first post, but this is something I am really concerned about. My cousin is 22 now and seems to be better, but I would have to say that if I was not able to work as a CM because of, well frankly, her, that would be something I'll be bitter about for a very long time.

Any thoughts or input on this would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

Don't bring the situation up during the hiring process. If you are asked about it, explain it the way you did in your post. The key is the MOD did not call the police. Your story must have been believable then and it should be now.

I wouldn't really worry about it. If for some reason you were blacklisted from all Disney Hotels then I would be slightly more concerned. Right now we are really short that this kind of incident would probably not hurt you at all. Just don't bring it up ;) .
Good Luck at Casting!!!

I'm with the previous two posters. If there were any significant consequences, you would have been informed at the time. Sounds like the worst of it for you was the embarrassment and the memories. Hopefully you can return soon or hire own and make some new, better memories.

Oh, and since I've been away for a while (if you can call being at Disney "away" on a Disney-themed site) I haven't done this for a while, so I'm very pleased to say:

:welcome: to :sgt: from :wallaby: and :wombat: !!!

I thought I'd let you get that one in. I was here first.

I know someone who works here who had a similar problem. That should be worth some hope.

Thanks for the input, everyone (and the welcome!) I really do appreciate it, and it definitely makes me feel better.

Hopefully I will have my own SGT to share as a CM (if I can just find a FT job to get me outta Buffalo first!) :)

I agree with eveyone else, Do not bring it up. If they blacklisted you, it seems you would have been banned from the Resorts and the Police would have been called and they would have escorted yopu of property at the time. So I doubt it is even on a record as one of those incidents that can have them asking questions. If they do, be honest and truthful as you were with the MoD and us here.
I hope you get on at WDW, more of us infiltrating the ranks everyday...Mwahahahahaha...
Break a leg at casting ;) and hopefully we will get to meet you someday wearing the costume of your choice! :D:
