Caribbean music suggestions, please

Post by Whazzup » Tue Jan 08, 2008 11:06 am

I need some music CDs for my Disney Cruise Line House Party in a couple weeks. Can anyone recommend a few artists or CDs that would make good background music? Just need some light, fun music that will provide an island atmosphere (Caribbean or Calypso, not Hawaiian, Hobie :) ).
Thanks.

Little Mermaid instumentals? Theme music from cocktail?

Plenty of steel drum music there.

Cranbiz beat me to it. Little Mermaid soundtrack.

Maybe the Tiki Room song, or HOT HOT HOT by Buster Poindexter. The Limbo. I would still include some Hawaiian music. Most ppl dont know the difference between the islands.

It seems like most of the music here is now Jawaiian. The locals have ripped off the Jamacians mon! I'd like to see what would happen if slack key met Metallica.

Well, those were interesting comments! :D:
I don't think I've heard the soundtrack from Little Mermaid - I'll check it out.
Doesn't have to be Disney music, but if they've got it, I'll use it.

I was reading online about the history of Calypso music and how it's been "modernized." Is there nothing original and pure anymore? Is it all "new" and "improved"? Sheesh!

Id go with some good Jimmy Buffet myself..."Boat drinks" or the like

How about go down to the local Barns and Noble or Boarders and see what thye have, you dont have to buy it there (gads over priced) but you can sample some of it with ear phones and see if you like it then get copies in other ways

*Extra points if you can do it in ways that does not give the RIAA any more money

Those are the guys that even make the IRS seem nice.

The Recording Industry Association of America. they are they ones trying to enforce the copyright laws on music downloads and other things.

They seem to view the portion of the copyright law, where if you buy something, you can make a copy for your personal use, as invalid.
