Doctor Mickey

Post by BRWombat » Thu Dec 13, 2007 12:39 pm

From MickeyNews.com:
[INDENT]Disney announced plans Wednesday to build a $6 million health facility on its property for the use of its cast members and their dependents who participate in the company's health plans.

The 15,000-square-foot facility will give cast members access to primary care doctors and other medical professionals, as well as a pharmacy, lab, basic radiology and wellness and behavioral health resources.

The facility will open in 2009 and will be operated by a health management company to be chosen in the coming months.

The new health center will provide:

* Longer-than-average visits with health care professionals
* Convenience through extended operating hours, weekend availability and its close proximity to work-coordinated treatment

More than 40,000 Walt Disney World cast members and dependents are currently eligible for benefits.

Hmm...maybe that's not a bad thing after all. :D:

The insurance premiums must have jumped up enough that Disney sees an opportunity.

Or maybe they're being forced to pay out so much for employees' coverage that it'll be cheaper for them to do the health care end themselves...

I'm waiting for the first woman to visit her OB/GYN and discover the doc wears Mickey ears during the exam and uses a Donald Duck speculum. Quaaaaaack!!

I think the last thing any man wants to see is a scary guy in a mask doing those things to our favorite special happy place.

I wasn't thinking of THAT, more along the lines of paitent interviews with a doctor in costume!! which, I wonder, if they will design a "special" kind of Mickey Scrubs for them?

The city I work for has done this for years, and it's been a tremendous benefit. I and any of my dependents can see a doctor at the employee clinic by appointment with no out-of-pocket, no copay. Even better, on M-F from 7-8:30 they are open to employees (only) with no appointment necessary. They don't handle emergencies, of course, but they will do routine physicals. I've used them many times, and I know it's saving the City $$$ (otherwise it would have been shut down years ago!).
