Just found out my grandmother has apendicitis. They are going to try to take it out tonight. She is 79 years old and has a few other medical problems.

Just found out they are going to have the surgery in a little while.

She's out of surgery and in recovery. It went well. They will be keeping her for a few days to keep an eye on her and give her antibiotics, etc.

She is doing well. They were able to do the endoscopic (or whatever they call it) procedure where they only have to make small holes instead of slicing the patient wide open. She was in surgery for less than an hour and in recovery for about as long. She is being kept in the hospital for a few days to keep an eye on her to make sure there are no complications.

I understand the doctor said it was a good thing she came in today, if she waited until tomorrow the appendix probably would burst.

We are all very thankful that she is doing well and that it was not nearly as bad as it could be.

Wow, they can do endoscopic appendectomies now? Amazing!

Mine had already burst when they went in and removed it. Apparently, that is the case about half the time. The complications come when it bursts, you sit on it for a few days, then when you notice the really bad symptoms, you finally go and see a doctor.

Glad she's recovering well. Thoughts and prayers going out for her, and a touch of pixie dust just for show. Ka-Shing!

Yep, they can. Last night after I found out she was going to have surgery I did a little research on WebMD and found out about the two types of appendectomies. I was hoping they would choose the endoscopic kind and they did. It would probably take her a long time to heal from being sliced open and naturally there are more chances from complications especially at her age.

With her health catching it after it burst could very easily have been to late. While she is pretty healthy for a 79 year old woman she does have some health problems and doesn't heal as well as she used to. She started feeling some pain and discomfort the other day but yesterday it got even worse so that is why we took her to the ER and am glad we did.

We took her to one of the best hospitals in the area which is about 30 minutes away. There is a hospital only a few minutes straight down the road from her house but it frankly is crap. It takes forever to be seen at all in the ER and the staff isn't as knowledgeable as they could and should be. Nobody in their right mind goes there if they can help it.

The hospital we took her to is rated as one of the best, if not the best, in the area. It is a fine example of how a hospital should be run.

I am sending good thoughts and well wishes for her recovery! My appendix had not burst YET, when they got to it, but it was on the verge. Doc said it would have had I waited another hour. I was SICK!!!!!!!!!! I have a huge scar running from my belly button down to, well, down. But scars make the body more interesting anyway. Scars are nature's tattoos! :D: ;)
I hope your grandmother recovers quickly and is up and about soon! :)
