This evening a beagle wandered into my store.

This evening the three of us working were at the front doors talking to another coworker and a former coworker when a beagle puppy wandered up. He didn't have a collar on but was very friendly. He gets into the store while we're talking. We notice him limping, it looks like his leg got injured somehow.
It is evident that this dog has or had a home. You can tell he is trained and in pretty good shape though it appears he's been wandering for a few days. We got him some food from next door and he inhaled it so we could tell he hasn't eaten in a while. One of my coworkers wanted to take it home with her but her husband didn't think it was a good idea as they already have three dogs and a for few other reasons. I would have loved to have brought him home with me but a small apartment is no place for a dog, even if I could afford one.
We hated to do it but we had to call Animal Control and have him taken to the shelter as we knew that was the best place for him. We're hoping that his owners find him or he gets adopted. We're really hoping they'll put him up for adoption and not just put him to sleep after the waiting period is up, which may happen as the shelter is very full right now. :(
The Animal Control officer was hopful he'd be put up for adoption and said beagles tend to always be adopted.
I printed up flyers tonight about finding him and we're going to put up one up in the store and I'm going to see if the Whataburger and CVS on either side of us will let me put some up. I also put a found dog ad in the paper (though it won't run until the wating period is nearly up) and I emailed a local beagle rescue I found online.
I hope his owners find him or he gets adopted into a good home. He is such a friendly, beautiful puppy. I know I couldn't provide him the kind of home he needs, even temporarily, or I would have taken him home with me. The little guy is only about a year old.
Hey, Wazzup, want or know anybody who wants a beagle puppy? If his owners don't claim him he'll be going up for adoption next week hopefully.
I have a few pictures I took with my phone I'll post later, though none of them are great shots.
