This evening a beagle wandered into my store.
This evening the three of us working were at the front doors talking to another coworker and a former coworker when a beagle puppy wandered up. He didn't have a collar on but was very friendly. He gets into the store while we're talking. We notice him limping, it looks like his leg got injured somehow.
It is evident that this dog has or had a home. You can tell he is trained and in pretty good shape though it appears he's been wandering for a few days. We got him some food from next door and he inhaled it so we could tell he hasn't eaten in a while. One of my coworkers wanted to take it home with her but her husband didn't think it was a good idea as they already have three dogs and a for few other reasons. I would have loved to have brought him home with me but a small apartment is no place for a dog, even if I could afford one.
We hated to do it but we had to call Animal Control and have him taken to the shelter as we knew that was the best place for him. We're hoping that his owners find him or he gets adopted. We're really hoping they'll put him up for adoption and not just put him to sleep after the waiting period is up, which may happen as the shelter is very full right now. :(
The Animal Control officer was hopful he'd be put up for adoption and said beagles tend to always be adopted.
I printed up flyers tonight about finding him and we're going to put up one up in the store and I'm going to see if the Whataburger and CVS on either side of us will let me put some up. I also put a found dog ad in the paper (though it won't run until the wating period is nearly up) and I emailed a local beagle rescue I found online.
I hope his owners find him or he gets adopted into a good home. He is such a friendly, beautiful puppy. I know I couldn't provide him the kind of home he needs, even temporarily, or I would have taken him home with me. The little guy is only about a year old.
Hey, Wazzup, want or know anybody who wants a beagle puppy? If his owners don't claim him he'll be going up for adoption next week hopefully.
I have a few pictures I took with my phone I'll post later, though none of them are great shots.

Here we go. By the way, the coworker who wanted to take him home started calling him "Zone" so that's his name in our minds.I also meant to say that the Animal Control officer said she was going to check the lost and found book when she got back to the shelter on the chance his owners reported him missing.

Zone in the office.

Coworker taking a picture of Zone with her phone.

Zone looking out the door.

Zone looking out the door, again.
And just for the fun of it:

Red, who came in with her owner a few weeks ago.

Hope he finds a good home. Beautiful dog.
My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

What a cutie! Beagles like to *howl* a LOT and it is possible that the owners were not aware of this noisy part of their personality and decided they did not want him anymore. I hope that he just lost and they are looking for him. Beagle rescue is a great idea because they could probably get him out of the pound and find a good home with a Beagle lover. The rescues that do specific breeds are quite successful at placing these beautiful little creatures. I wish I could take him, but our cats would hate sharing the house with the enemy...a dog! Eventually they may HAVE to as we are talking of getting a dog at some point, maybe just more cats would be wiser....I could really be the Crazy Cat Lady! :D:

What a cutie he is. I'm glad you didn't post a picture of his face with those lovely beagle-brown eyes. It would be sad to think of him being put down because nobody adopts him. It sounds like you did everything you could to get the word out about him.
One thing you might have tried is borrowing a collar and leash and taking him for a walk near your store - he might have led you right to his house!
We have 2 greyhounds and 2 cats and a horse - no more critters for me right now. :(

I got a response from a lady at the beagle rescue. She says that they will do all they can to find the owner or placing him into a foster home. That makes me feel better.
I did borrow a leash and walked him around outside the store a little. He was evidently leash trained. He was to busy sniffing everywhere to lead me anyplace. It is evident that he had been wandering for a few days so he was lost and couldn't find his way home.Whazzup wrote:What a cutie he is. I will be your guide for this magical journey into the movies. It's the perfect job for me, because I love movies! Is everybody ready? Great, because it's showtime. Ready when you are, CB!
