Why is it so damn hard to find out who a phone number belongs to?

Post by Shorty82 » Mon Oct 08, 2007 10:51 pm

Earlier today I receive a call on my cell. As I was at work and helping a customer I ignored it and let it keep vibrating in my pocket (only carry it on me as I drive regularly for the store). Later I check to see who called and saw an Orlando number and that no message was left. I figured maybe my brother, his wife, or maybe my uncle called me as they live down there. I try calling the number when I get off work a little before 10:00 (11:00 in Orlando) and got some business' machine telling the hours but couldn't understand the name, something Resorts. I know Disney wasn't the word. It sounds kind of like "lucred".

I can't figure out who would be calling me from a resort in Orlando. I tried reverse lookup on the number and can't figure out the owner. Used to be I could search one or two sites and get the information right away or be told it was unlisted. Tonight I've searched through a number of reverse directories and only one told me the number was unlisted, the rest told me there were no results or most said they have the information but that I'd have to pay for it. A few of the pay sites were ones I used to use all the time to look up numbers with no problems. I am not paying $15.00 to find out who a number belongs to.

It's weird that any place, especially a resort, in Orlando would call me. I could kind of see a Disney number as my uncle works there and maybe a school number as my brother is a teacher. Of course a residential number because of my uncle and brother. I can't figure it out. I'll have to remember to call the number tomorrow and see who it is and what they want. I'm not sure how they would have gotten my number. I think Disney may have gotten my number from my last trip as that was the number used to reserve the train tour but I never gave it to anybody else down there.

:) Thanks, but I'll call the number in a bit and find out who it is and what they want.

They called me again a little while ago. Seems they got my number from one of those contests you can enter at malls and what-not that I did so long ago I had forgotten about it. They were trying to sell me a vacation loan or some such clap for a trip to Orlando. To finally get her to understand I wasn't interested and to stop trying I had to tell her I had family down there that took care of those things.

Too bad, was hoping maybe you won something and we could all be jealous. :D:

Did they get insulted? LOL When we went down last month we stayed one nite at the Comfort Inn LBV (nice place and cheap--we liked it) and when you check in the desk on the side tries to wrangle you into the time share thing. The lady was major ticked that we were too busy to come listen to a speil. She kept saying "well what about this day? " NO ..we will be at "X" park "but dont you want the free buffet dinner?" sure but I want to go to WDW more. LOL When she finally got the point she actually went "HUFF-fine" LOL She really made the huff sound...ROTFL Had I not been so tired from being on the road I probably would have asked for the manager and complained about the attitude, but all I wanted was a shower at that point.

Tho she wasnt as bad as the creepy guy who was going door to door last week trying to save ppl. No uniform or anything, just a t-shirt and jeans and as soon as he started I stopped him and said no thank you, not interested. He just DID NOT get the hint. I finally had to kinda yell at him ..."DUDE< WE ARE NOT INTERESTED" But then we got the when you die will you go to heaven or hell speech. I told him I could care less, I would be dead so it would not really matter. I had to ask him not so politely to leave ..NOW. Thank god(or goddess or whoever) that Donnie was out there too.

Those people probably get paid commision based on the number of people they sign up. That doesn't excuse her attitude though, that was uncalled for. She must be used to being able to wrangle the majority of people into signing up and with you not going for it got upset.

I didnt think about the commision aspect of it. But yeah she was a cranky one, plus she had really bad roots showing and a way too low cut shirt on. Maybe I should have sent Donnie in to check in. LOL :D:

I've signed up to go to get them to shut up, then never show up. You see, being a Florida resident, I am not eligible... but they try to get me to go anyway so they can get their commission... then they want me to lie about my income and stuff like that, stuff I could get in trouble for doing. So then, when they call me, I let it go to voicemail the first time, then the second time I answer and tell them how the sales guy wanted me to lie to them so they could try to pressure me into buying something I couldn't afford. The last time, they had hung up by the time I got done explaining it.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

I was in the same situation. I was getting calls for over two weeks now, and still getting them from numbers I don't recognize. So, I just ignore them and they never leave a voicemail. I believe that it is spam. Recently, last Friday, one of the numbers that have been calling me, the caller leaves a voice mail, I checked it, it's from the University Of Phoenix. The thing is I don't remember giving m number away. Now, there are two numbers with unrecognizable area codes that start with 847. Anyone know where that belongs to?

Anyone care to call for me?

847 - 783 - 8945

847 - 586 - 8705
