That's not how I would have choosen to wake up.

Post by Shorty82 » Fri Sep 07, 2007 5:56 am

About 55 minutes ago, at 5:00 am I half wake up and I see flashing lights on the wall of my room, flashing in a way that said was "emergency vehicle". I go "what the hell?!" and pop up and look out the window.

We have a resident Sheriff's Deputy in my apartment complex and he parks his cruiser across the parking lot from my apartment. For some reason the white rotating lights in the center of the lightbar were going. Strange to say the least so I grap my phone and walk over there and that is when I notice the headlamps were also flashing (tails weren't) and the engine was off. I don't know which apartment the officer lives in so I didn't go knocking on doors, instead I called the Sheriff's non-emergency line and let them know that way. Nobody was around and I knew if they were left on for to long the cop would have had a dead battery.

About 20 minutes or so later another deputy pulled in and turned off the lights. At least I assume that's what he did. I didn't see that deputy until he was just pulling out though I did hear a little brake squeal just before but I was too busy catching up here to look. I didn't see the deputy who drives the cruiser here and it started raining just about the same time the one was pulling out so I didn't go out to talk to him.

I had to get up at 5:15 this morning anyway for work so being woken up at 5:00 wasn't too bad. Still annoying though, I'd rather get up slowly and not pop out of bed, especially at that evil of an hour.

EDIT: Oh, yeah. Forgot to mention. I got woken up earlier in the night too. About 2:00 my radio goes off. I'm thinking something didn't feel right and when I hit the snooze bar and nothing happened, I was right. The power had gone out and for some strange reason the radio in my clock starts playing when that happens and won't turn off until power is restored. I turn the volume off and then I notice that the clock display is blank, the display on my VCR and the standby light on my PS2 were off and my A/C wasn't going. Only the numlock on my keyboard was still lit and the only sound was my computer fan as I have it on a UPS. I look out and the whole area was dark. A minute later the power came back and I turned the radio off and the volume on so it'll wake me up later (didn't need it anyway!) and went back to bed.

I tried editing this into my OP put the system told me I could only edit for 15 minutes after making the post, even though I started the edit before then.

One evening four years ago when the hubby, our daughter and I were still in Virginia, when the baby was small it was late at night, and some apartment next door to us caught fire. The fire department came and got everyone out of our apartment. It was a bitter night, but I bundled up the baby when my hubby called for me to get out of the apartment... She was the only one of us that was warm- and we ran out barefoot. Luckily we were able to go to another apartment building and get warm, called my parents and they came and got me/the baby so we slept at my parents house. After a couple hours they let the people back into our apartment building and the hubby brought the baby's car seat/stroller to my parents' house a couple streets away to be her bed that night.

I can still remember that- and a drug bust on the apartment buildings behind us in Virginia like they just happened yesterday...

As a volunteer firefighter, I was always getting up at all hours of the morning. Just get to sleep and the tones go off. 3 feet of snow and 0 degree temps, jump in the truck and go.

The worst part was if the tones were for one of the other 2 fire companies we had. You just laid there awake listening to the call. Or the 3am run to the shit plant. Like who cares if the shit plant burns and then again, what is in a shit plant to burn anyway.

Shit, that's what. That stuff if flammable, don'tcha know. I don't even want to know what would happen if as much shit one of those places have caught fire.

From manure they get methane gas which will go boom if you light a match.

For the Mensa people read this:

For the beer chuggers:
Humans and animals poop.
Tiny wittle buggy wuggies are added to poop.
Methane gas is made.

Sometimes you guys are too literal.

Yes, I know there is methane created in the process of decomposition of shit. I also know that methane IS flamible (after all I was a volunteer firefighter for 20+ years). However, the plant itself was a Space metal building(or General Steel for those who don't know what a Space building is) and the holding tanks are concrete and dryers are large metal drums. The byproduct of decomposing shit becomes fertilizer and this fertilizer is non flamible.

The more important question is...... If the shit plant burns in the middle of the night and nobody see's it, does anybody really care?

Only those who flush and nothing goes down the drain.

With such a "shitty" discussion we may need a plunger smiley soon.
