When SGs affect nice guests

Post by Big Wallaby » Sat May 26, 2007 4:33 am

The other night, I was working DTD and PI, when this really nice Asian couple, who didn't speak much English, came up and asked how to get to TTC. About the time I had them understanding that I was the Saratoga bus, that they wanted another bus (Contemporary/Poly) in the same loadzone I was in, these two SGs come up, ask them where they're going, and as they get on the bus, tell the couple to follow them, THEY'LL (the SGs) get the couple where they're going, I obviously am not helping them any. Now I was mad because they convinced the Asian couple that I am a dolt that shouldn't be listened to, so to save my saying something I shouldn't, I kept my mouth shut. However, before leaving the Marketplace, and again before leaving PI, I explained on the PA that this bus was NOT going to Contemporary/Polynesian, but Saratoga, that if you wanted to go to TTC you needed the other bus in the same loadzone. No one got off, so I left for Saratoga Springs (again, I knew what I would say to the two SG guys if I open my mouth to them). So I made the round, and went back to Marketplace. Right before my last stop at Congress Park, the SG's told the Asian couple that the next stop after this would be the Contemporary, to which I finally responded, "No, I'm going back to the Marketplace." They responded how I was in the stop for CoPo, and I explained as nicely as I could how I had said multiple times that I was not going there, and had they listened or read the marquee on my bus, they would have known. Furthermore, I explained that because of their assuming me to be stupid after my explaining the situation to the couple, they had now stolen a good half hour to forty-five minutes of their time. The SG's got off at Congress Park to take an Epcot bus (this was after they closed) to take the Monorail, and I let them, but kept the couple on board to try to help them out of the situation (plus I knew they would get back to TTC faster with my help). I felt bad for them, but at the same time, they had listened to SGs instead of me. When I took them back to MP, where they had started, they were very nice, thanking me for my help as I was apologizing for the inconvenience they had been caused. I told them that if you are genuine in asking for assistance, a Cast member will be genuine in their response, and other guests don't always know what they are talking about, so if they need help please come to us instead. Once the SGs were off the bus, I was back to my nice self.

I could have spit nails at the SGs, not because they had caused problems for themselves then got mad at me for it as I deal with that every day, but because they had made life more difficult for another guest, especially a couple guests who honestly didn't have the most firm grasp of English but were doing a fairly good job coping with that. I love working with the guests who are in genuine need of information (not asking where Spaceship Earth is while standing under it), and I can laugh at SGs, but when an SG puts another guest at considerable inconvenience by their stupidity, that's when it gets to me. Add that they try to make me look stupid in the process, and it doesn't get any better.

I just can't stand the "know it all's" when I'm at work. It's like, Hey I work here and if I tell you that I'm not going there, you would think that "Hey, he's driving, maybe he knows where we are going" So why are you, as a SG going to question me.

Last night was my first experience with MiMs being online at MK. I'm a computer person by trade, so I really did not have too many issues with it but found out that is is very difficult to change your route midstream.

Now, there is a Looooong line of buses entering the MK and all have got thier dispatches. OK, I got mine and waited about 5 minutes at the light to get into the MK bus area. In front of me is 4959. I turn twards the south loop to goto French Quarter, where does 4959 go, TO FRENCH QUARTER!

Call field 2, ask if they want to give me another assignment as the bus right in front of me just went to my assignment (dispatch was screwed up due to drivers trying to enter route codes and figuring out how to use the MDT's)

OK they give me Yacht and Beach Clubs. Fine, now I just need to change my route in the MDT so the marquee will be right. Nope. Can't change the route, all I can do is add the route to the queue and is will change when I finish my first route. No, that's not going to work. I'm in the Yacht Club load zone and hear SG's going, He is going to FQ, we need wait, or Hey he's going to FQ, let's get on and have everyone from the other line come here. I get off the bus to inform the guests that I AM going to YC/BC and big mouth SG says, "thats not what your sign says, your going to take us to FQ."

I politely tell them that is's a bug in the software and the computer won't change the marquee but this bus is going to YC/BC. SG won't stop, Others politely ask if I am going to YC/BC and get on when I say yes, SG put's his entire 25 member family on board and won't believe me even when I get on the PA and tell all guests is they want YC/BC, stay here, FQ is the bus in #6 two loadzones away. SG's wife says to SG "Honey, why is the driver telling us wrong information" and SG goes, "The driver really does not control the bus, the computer does, the computer said FQ, that's where we are going"

(I guess the new audioanamitronic drivers are ready) :D:

OK Mr Disney, I don't control the bus. So why then am I driving to Yacht Club?

I head out, turn onto Seven Seas Drive and SG goes "This is not the way to Port Orleans" I go "yes sir, you're right." He goes "How come we're not going to Port Orleans?", I go "Because the computer is fixed and the marquee say's Yacht Club / Beach Club like I told you back at Magic Kingdom"

He now is very qiuet, wife is talking to other family members making apologies and I'm grinning from ear to ear. Yes, I felt sorry for the family but not for SG.

When we got back to MK, I politely tell them where to catch the bus to FQ, SG still won't talk, his family thank me and off they go.

That is too funny. I love it when their "knowledge" blows up in their own face. I also feel sorry for when they inconvenience others with their stupidity.

I thought that the concierges where CMs with a microchip implanted in them so that they knew all the answers.

I thought that the transportation from the horse drawn trolley to the monorail were all on tracks, some embedded underground, and that the horses and people were just for show.

I thought that the firemen in Disney were for show.

I thought that transportation was supposed to automatically tell you the quickest and easiest way to get from Point A to Point B.

Oh no you have ruined my vision of Disney parks. Head to desk, tears flowing as my dreams are shattered, sniff.

Sorry just got a little carried away. i wonder sometimes if i am the only guest who knows the real truth about the parks. By the way did you know that the dinosaurs at the parks are real and where hunted down in Madagascar. Yep I heard it on a knowledged and respect board that all the dinosaurs in Disney parks stuff and animated.

Dude, you just like posted that on a public board. Now they're gonna get ideas!

And yes, we all know that if there was a way to make it work, they would. I've heard some interesting and awful rumors that within five years they'll be ready to do away with the monorail pilots. I'd better get into that before it's a missed opportunity.

To be honest, and as much as I hate to say this, I've wondered for a long time why they haven't taken that step yet. *sigh*

I overheard a GSM last night telling a driver that the monkeys were coming soon to replace us.

As far as the monorails, I would not be surprised, OIA has been doing it for years. But then SG's cannot ride up front there. (well actually they can but it's not the same)
