Pregnant women should not ride....Soarin'?

Space Mountain, Everest, etc., are no-brainers (although I'm sure pregnant SG try it), but what about the Safari and Soarin'? Will a CM prevent me from getting on, or will I just get disapproving glares?

Well... Rules are posted for a reason, even if a guest doesn't agree with them. usually it's obvious why... but sometimes it is for reasons you may not think of. Sometimes it is posted not because of the attraction itself, but because of worse case scenario's, 101 procedures, evacs and the like.

Will a CM try to stop you from boarding, for the most part i'm gonna say that will depend on the CM. However, I will say my opinion is that if it states something could be a risk while pregnant and you do it anyway.... well....

The concern with roller coasters, thrill rides, and virtual rides during pregnancy is associated with the rapid starts and stops, the jarring forces, and the pressures against the body that occur during these types of rides. This rigorous activity creates additional jarring forces within the uterus that may lead to premature separation of the placenta from the wall of the uterus, which is called placental abruption.

As for Kilamanjaro Safari, I was in severe pain when I road in the back which is over the rear wheels. That ride makes people bounce in their seats. Any ride that has that kind of jarring is off limits to pregnant women.

Soarin probably is for excessive jarring.

Autopia is the severe back pain inducing slamming by drivers into other cars.

Some rides like Peter Pan in Disneyland require a guest be able to get down a ladder. It used to and may have changed. They do however allow pregnant guests on that ride.

I have no idea about Safari, but the Soarin' out here in Ca has no such restriction, I checked.

Very true...but I'm only four months, and Safari seems the same to me as a car ride down a dirt road. Soarin'....I don't remember ever getting jarred or jerked around. I'm just not a very paranoid person...I eat deli meat, tuna salad, candy when I want it, drink juice that I'm not sure was 100% pasturized, take hot showers, and paint my toe nails with regular polish. I guess my kid is going to be severely deformed.

Anyway, I can definitely climb up and down a ladder. I guess I'll just see when I get there.

I checked and the official DisneyWorld site does not restrict pregnant women from Soarin' nor does DCA.


I rode Kilamanjaro Safari on the left side in the middle and it was pretty much a gentle ride and did not scare me or hurt my back. The last time was in the last row which is over the rear axle. I was in extreme pain as my back got jarred over and over. It depends on where you sit. Also an e-stop could be abrupt and cause excessive force on a pregnant woman as stated in the previously posted articles.

Oh, I thought I had read somewhere that pregnant women shouldn't ride Soarin'. All the pregnancy books say to avoid sitting in the back of airplanes when traveling because it is bumpier. I will avoid sitting in the back on Safari too!

I doubt you will have trouble in the front rows of Kilamanjaro Safari. Some people do caution women to be very careful about anything that might jar them. There are the overly cautious and the wreckless so you probably read an article that recommended not riding Soarin'.

Well, being that i dislike soarin' and only rode it once back at DCA, i wasn't aware of the lack of warning there.

It's just that every time this subject or the "how to get my kid on a ride he/she is too short for" discussion comes up I kinda feel nauseated. Now on this one... the only question is on Safaris, and yah, its mostly gentle... i would think the danger would be in an emergency or something. For the most part use your common sense though... they don't put up the warnings, whatever they may be, just to put them there.
