"Queenie" in the Mardi Gras Show/Dapper Dans

Post by SkullRocker » Fri Feb 16, 2007 6:44 am

I stopped by DL last week and caught the last couple of minutes of the Mardi Gras show by Pirates, but not enough to know if the performer playing Queenie was a female or a real drag queen.

I'm hoping he/she was a drag queen for some reason, but that would seem surprisingly hip for Disney. Anyone know?

Also, I had heard they recast the Dapper Dans, but it was quite a shock to see the new guys, and not in a good way. What's the story? Why did they make that change? The old guys were real pros IMHO.

Thanks

No Queenie is a woman. The bigger black lady is good. The other lady sucks. She can't sing worth a crap. She should have been fired when she was singing up on stage with the pirates.

The new Dapper Dans show sucks as well. They should have left the old ones as they have been for years. They were much better singers than the new ones. The new show format sucks also. I also don't like how they pipe their awful voices all throughout Main Street on the speakers. It's bad show in my opinion because you are forced to hear them while you are on Main Street even if you don't want to hear them. It's not like a parade where everyone sits down cuz they know a parade is coming. Most guests don't know or care about the Dapper Dans (I'm not talking about the APs. I'm talking about the tourists). Disney is basically forcing them to listen by blaring them throughout Main Street. The old Dapper Dans were miked in once place, in the middle of Main Street when they did their show. Now, Disney mikes them in the middle of Main Street, at the fruit cart and also at Refreshment Corner.

Oh my, that's too bad. As a drag queen she wasn't half-bad, but you're right, without that happening she fails to impress. Somehow I doubted that Disney would do that although it would have been cool if they had.

Agreed that the new Dapper Dans don't sing as well as the old ones and the mic is annoying, but, more importantly, they just don't have the polish and stage presence the old guys had. Shelby, the lead, used to be able to crack me up at will with just a look or by twitching his eyebrows as I walked by. They were also fantastic with kids in the audience.
