GAC and trying not to be a stupid guest.

Post by DLRP4Me » Tue Feb 13, 2007 11:18 pm

I had a few questions about the GAC and figured you guys were the best bet on getting accurate information.

We'll be at WDW for a week with our three kids, our younger two have asthma among other issues. Our five year old is the worse of the two in terms of the asthma, she gets heat exhaustion easily and can't handle long periods of time in the direct sunlight. We'll be bringing her hats and keeping her covered but if she overheats she's a train wreck waiting to happen. The youngest is is two and has asthma and seizure disorders - unknown origin, she did ok on our last trip, but it was to DLP and cold, the heat she doesn't handle as well.

Ok, with this limited amount of medical history is it worth it for us to try to get a GAC? Am I going to need letters from the doctors?

Normally I wouldn't bother with stuff like this but the last month has been hell with them, we're squeezing in CT scans before we leave for Florida - I'm in hyper freaked out mom mode.

I think that's all, sorry for such a long winded question/post!

Jessica

I would suggest going to http://www.disboards.com and look for the "disABILTIES!" Forum, which is about the 10th one down the list. When you get there, start with the "disABILTIES! FAQ" which has a section on Guest Assistance Cards. Once you've read that, please ask any questions you want there; it is really a good place to get information.

You do NOT need a letter from the Doctor, but having one will likely shorten your time at Guest Relations getting your card (i.e. less questions). Just present the CM with the letter (or tell them what your child's needs are) and tell them you need a Guest Assistance Card.

One of the GAC options is "Provide a shaded waiting area out of direct sunlight." NOTE: This will likely not eliminate any waits.

Hope this helps.
