Guests that know EVERYTHING about Disneyland

Post by kingocal » Thu Dec 21, 2006 11:14 pm

I guess this thread could be in the "Overheard Comments", but I thought I needed to start a new thread about "know it all" guests.

I crack up when guests talk like they know everything about Disneyland, California Adventure, and just the entire resort. Like the guests who know all about our totally secret tunnels about where they are where they go and whats in them. Or about the guests who know everything about Club 33 and who have never been in there.

I especially love those internet sights that are geared towards Disney, like Mouseplanet, where every poster claims to be a seasoned pass holder.
Check this thread out and you will see what I mean about how they seem to know it all.

Just look at all the posters there who claim to have the right answer. Some have some info right but 90% is bogus assumptions.

Look at this one too. About the Midway Mania thing at DCA. IT seems like everybody has some fake connection with a cast member. Which is not true. They are just assumptions.

Kingocal, I am trying to understand what the problem is. I have read both your quoted forum discussions and can only gather that following:

NYE and Park Closing - People (yes, only guests, not cast members) with experience (of what level?) of what happens during these busy times are informing others on the procedure so that they are able to enjoy themselves without being refused entry.

Midway Mania - This looks to be a collection of rumour and ideas on what the construction will result in.

As for MousePlanet, these are posts in the forum. The same could be said of any board, even this one. I live in Australia, so I don't get to the parks too often. The articles and updates from MousePlanet (from their 'staff') have ensured that the few trips I have made to the parks were fun and a great use of our time. I don't read the MousePlanet boards.

Information on the first point could be crucial to a park guest on NYE. Have you tried to get this information from a Disney web site? If it is wrong, I would implore you to correct it.

As for the Midway Mania speculation, that is exactly what it is. Sure there are some people who claim they 'know it all', but you get that everywhere.

I get a lot of really useful information from here (cast members) as well as MousePlanet (hard core guests). I think it is a good thing that (1) people are interested in where you work, interested enough to publish entire web sites, hold events, etc. (2) those people share important information that can help people plan their trip and save them time (3) are excited enough to speculate on what is happening at the parks, such as Midway Mania, where I guess (yes, me speculating now) that most cast members would not have any futher information than what you can read on the boards.

I do not believe that "the customer is always right", for if they were, surely they could completely service themselves. In fact the customer needs to be informed and an informed customer is a good customer, in anyones business. I have notices that some of the posts from here (your complaints) find themselves as articles on other sites encouraging guests on the correct way to do things.

Remember, there is surely a cast member or two (if not more) that 'know all' and completely confuse guests with their 'knowledge'.

In short (yes, sorry about the rant), incourage the speculation, correct the misinformation.

Know it alls do give incorrect information, Fraggle, and we're not always at liberty to correct them. Nor are we necessarily registered or interested. But I've known of at least one case of someone I know personally getting in trouble for revealing information online. Cast members just shouldn't do it.

For instance, a guest on WDW Magic going into detail about how the Haunted Mansion shuts down its strech rooms on busy days, and how there's no elevator because the utilidor is under the ride, and how it's constantly breaking down and that's why it usually stops when you're on it.

These things are all incorrect, but everyone there believes the pompous SG because. . . I don't know why. But I can't actually go in and detail all the correct information to him because that would be (A) revealing things I don't think guests should be told anyway and (B) putting myself in a bad situation by giving cast member information.

Even if we could correct them, it's ALWAYS idiotic to be speaking about what you don't know.

Ah, but sometimes the guest DOES know more than the CM .
Example? When WDW first built the All-Stars Sports resort. I knew it was due to open in October, and called to book. "I'm sorry" the cast member informed me. "We have no resort named All-Star Sports." --- "I realize it is not open yet; I would like to go ahead and book for when it is." "There is no resort with that name, and no plans for a resort," the CM informed me. I had to get a supervisor who actually knew what was going on in order to book my room for the resort. Had I listened to the "in the know" CM, I would not have had my wonderful trip to WDW with my affordable room at AS-Sports.
I am planning a trip to WDW in January. My daughter loves RNRC, but it was rumored to be going down for rehab when we would be there. It did not appear on the official site until recently - I even wrote WDW asking for confirmation, and to this day have not received a response. Thank God for the boards which alerted me over a month before the official site. My daughter has had time to become okay with her favorite ride being down.
I've had plenty of CM tell me bogus stuff. You are only as accurate as your information, and near as I can tell, even CMs aren't always given the straight scoop.

Yeah, of course. But those guests don't bother me.

My biggest pet peeve on Tours is when I get the daily guest who asks me a MILLION AND ONE questions about star wars... I know I work on a star wars ride and there are def star wars geeks that work with me but honestly there is only 1 real Return and thats of the King. gotta love those hobbits on their walk.

All right look, there's only one return, okay, and it ain't "of the King," it's "of the Jedi."

From:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_ ... f_the_Jedi

"The film was originally titled Revenge of the Jedi. However, a few weeks before the film's premiere, George Lucas changed the title, stating revenge could not be used because Jedi do not seek revenge."

Lucas changed the name to Return, thus the name is Return, if it was 20th Century Fox's doing, I might side with you.
