Any MK CM recognize this nametag? It has me stumped. Was it some sort of special event? Or is it one of the backstage divisions that make the magic happen? Any information is appreciated. Thanks, and have a magical day!

Either a WDW Millenium/Year 2000 nametag, or a WDW 20th Anniversary nametag.

This was the name tags given out from 1999 to 2001 for the mellenium celebration. I wasn't a cast member back then, but on of my friends was and has a simmilar tag.
VISA. It's everywhere you want to be, and a lot of places you don't.

The oval tag is a standard issue tag for the Millennium Celebration, except that it's lacking a hometown. It's attached to a "Magic Kingdom Ride & Show" base.
This is the style of nametag used by Ride & Show Engineering at MK -- including the missing hometown. These are generally worn in a pocket protector rather than being pinned to a costume.
The reason for the base tag showing the department is twofold -- first, a pin-on nametag would be hazardous in their line of work, which includes getting up close and personal with operating attraction equipment. Second, it identifies them as someone who has a good reason to be messing about with attraction equipment. If I saw someone -- even someone with a current nametag, an appropriate costume, and a toolbelt -- working on or around my attraction *without* the R&S base, I'd e-stop the attraction and require them to leave, then call R&S Engineering to come inspect what these unauthorized folks might have done.
The hometown is missing because these folks are only exposed to guests as they are walking through park areas, and they don't particularly want to engage guests in conversations. If they're out there, it means that something important its broken.

Thanks so much for the information. I just wasn't sure if it was a backstage department or not. I have several others like this in my Museum:

I want a specialzed nametage plate that says "Slightly Disgruntled" and under my name instead of foreman "doesn't bite"
Gimme some soft serve!

I think an exception to this can reasonably be made for engineering folks that you personally know. Unfortunately*, dealing with the Cat Canyon Maintenence team is a near-daily part of my job, and thus, I know them pretty well. If one of them showed up without their nametag, or with the wrong nametag, I'd still let them work on the attraction.Zazu wrote:Second, it identifies them as someone who has a good reason to be messing about with attraction equipment. * They're nice people, but if I see them, it usually means that my attraction is in the midst of a problem that has the possibility to turn into a 101.
