Guests Sent From Heaven

Post by EpcotGolfer » Wed Aug 16, 2006 7:08 pm

Okay, I know we like to bitch on here about the stupid stuff guests do, but sometimes guests can do stuff that's helpful, like saving our butts. Example:

I was on Hollywood Boulevard shooting today, and two guests came up to ask for a photo of them with the Hat. About that time, two streetmosphere characters walked by, and they asked if they could get a picture with them. I explained that, for legal reasons, I can't do it on Photopass, but I offered to do it with their camera. After that picture, we turned to get the original picture of the Hat, when some twenty-something girl came barrelling out of nowhere to get their pictures with the streetmosphere characters as well. As I was the only CM around, she stuck her camera out to me, even though I was already helping other guests. I turned to my guests and asked if it would be okay if I helped this guest real quick, and they were fine with it. So I reached for her camera, but before I had a hold of it, the guest turned around quickly, tangling her finger in the strap and sending the camera flying to the ground, the battery coming out when it hit.

At this time, my career is flashing before my eyes, and I'm imaging getting a reprimand at least if this guest complains. The guest looks at the camera and starts freaking out about the only damage -- a tiny scratch by the zoom button at the top of the camera. All this time I am not admitting fault or even saying "I'm sorry," because I know that it was this guest's own fault. So we get the picture, the camera works fine, and she goes off. I then turn to take a picture of my original guests, and after I'm done, I say to them, "Well, I probably should go call my manager about that." The guests then offered to stay with me and speak to my manager to explain that it was not my fault at all, pointing out that the other guest had gone into the Darkroom store, supposedly to complain. So, after a few minutes, two of my managers come out, and I tell them my story, and these guests offer to fill out a witness statement. After taking it, my manager gave the guests fastpasses to Rock N' Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, and Lights Motors Action, which the guests weren't expecting and were very grateful to get.

So I didn't get the guests names when I was talking to them, but if you're out there, Annual Passholders from Virginia who saved a Photographer from a Stupid Guest today, thank you for saving my butt, and thank you for being a model guest!

First...I don't see how the guest can complain that it was your fault the camera dropped! What fools!!

As a Virginian I'd like to say that we are very hospitable (even if we can't spell it :D: ) folks!

Glad they were able to help out and that your managers showed their appreciation!!

There were a few times when I was the recipient of "warm fuzzies" when I worked at Knott's. One time, during the Easter celebrations, I was operating Charlie Brown Speedway, and a young boy showed his appreciation for his ride by coming back and giving me a plastic egg with a piece of candy in it! I still have the egg, BTW. A couple other times I had little kids give me hugs after their rides! Why can't more guests be like that?

We were parking the last aisle of a level in the parking structure when I was annoucing, repeatedly, to guests: Please walk in the aisle to the right for your safety, thank you! Otherwise, they would walk against the flow of traffic and block all the empty spaces. After I repeated the comment, I hear a loud voice in the background: "Maybe if there were signs telling us to!"

To that another guest replies: "MAYBE IT'S COMMON SENSE!!!"

Internally, I was jumping up and down and cheering. I love it when a guest says something that I want to say but can't.

"Where did I park? You work here and you don't know where I parked?!"
"Nope, sorry. I forgot to memorize all 15,000 cars' spots as they drove in today." :p:

Well EpcotGolfer, thank you for being a wonderful cast member and we were glad to help. I wanted to post and tell everyone how much fun we had on this trip. Both of us have had a rough year and needed to get away from it all and just have fun. And the cast members we met on this trip made our trip extra special.

I want to thank Gilbert at the front desk of Pop Century who probably was ready to kill me when I told him we did not want to be near the 80's section after he already gave us a room, over in the 80's section. And for putting up with our sillyness after having spent the day checking in soooo many guest. (We arrived the first day of free dining, we heard that there were over 1500 check ins that day).

All the photopass people who we harrassed all week getting our picture taken, including Chad and Adam at MGM and you EpcotGolfer and your wonderful managers. Make sure Jim remembers that the lamp is bolted to the table inside guest relations ;) Kathryn and Al at Epcot, we never really met you Al but we said hi to you alot, Kathryn sent us. And to the CM selling balls near the store heading to Mexico, thanks for letting us try and sell your merchandise. We had fun! I think the bottle of wine at dinner and the Bellinni we were drinking got to us so we were a little goofy.

We also want to thank Kevin at Big Thunder Mountain, that trivia question was sooo easy. Thanks to the CM in Tomorrowland who before opening gave us fast passes for any ride we wanted because we were the first waiting for rope drop.

And a big thank you to Domenic who works in the crystal shop and booth near Pirates. I think you were probably in the CP. You stayed late helping me find just the right charms and putting up with us goofying off and then the next day replaced my old broken cell phone charm with a new one and amused us with you hangover woe. Just make sure you keep your pants up, the guests do not want to see your underwear sweetie. Hope your head is better and keep having fun!

And Chip, Dale and Clarise (however you spell it, sorry) at MGM on 8/14 at about 1pm. We had so much fun with you three! And to Sorceror Mickey that same day at about 12:50 thanks for the dance! You made my trip! I got to dance with Mickey! :love2:

Thank you for all the hard work you all do, there are those of us who apperciate it. We know you work hard and for little money. I hope that you all had fun with us too. We hope to see some of you next year, we will be down with the kids the next time.

And I am sorry if I ever ask one of you where a bathroom is when we are standing in front of one, I have been known to do that! I am blonde, it comes with the territory.

I'm nearing the completion of what was, for the most part, a really horrible night at the office, but I just had a couple of guests who reminded me why the guest service industry isn't so bad. I've got this pair of guys who come for two nights a week, every week during the off-seasons (spring & fall here). The first time I checked these guys in, they spent a few minutes petting my dog (as so many guests do--they usually find it novel that people working in this hotel are allowed to have thier dogs with them, but to be fair, guests can have their pets too!). The next week, when I checked them in, they had brought special healty dog chew treats called Greenies (that I happen to know are really expensive...at least for my budget!) They continue this every week through the off season when they come out here to fish. They just spend a few minutes every trip saying hi to me and spoiling my beloved pup! Well, apparently that time of year is back because I just checked them out (I didn't know they were checked in!) and they said they were happy that I and Kwahati (the pup) are both still here and they made Kwahati sit and shake and then gave her another Greenie! So I'm just amazed right now at this (continuous) show of generosity and a guest just exuding all that can be great about humanity...and, of course, Kwahati's thrilled!

Thanks to all the nice guests! You make putting up with the others bareable! :D:

Glad I get to spend my 1st post on something that is nice instead of the usual issues we tend to get :)

I was working at the carrousel (at this particular time it was with the old Fantasyland costumes -the gold skirts) one day when this sweet little girl walked up to me asking for my autograph. Ended up that she was confusing me with Cinderella (I guess I was Cinderella before she met her prince! lol) so I signed her autograph book and then she hugged me and begged me to ride the carrousel with her. It was really so sweet and she was just the cutest thing ever. :) It still makes me smile.

Did you ride the Carousel with her?
