Guest Terminoligy

Post by Aaron the Wanderer » Mon Aug 07, 2006 9:22 pm

Sometimes working at a theme park is very confusing. Especially when guests use their own terminology to describe attractions.

The names with a * next to it is used in another attraction.

EPCOT

Spaceship Earth

The Space Ride*, Mission: Space*, The Golf Ball Ride, The Disco Ball Ride, The Ride That Goes Into the Big Ball, Number 2 (on the map), The Disco Ball, The Golf Ball, The Space Thing

Universe of Energy

The Ellen DeGenerous Ride, The Energy Ride, Number 3, The Dinosaur Ride* (which is confusing because there is a ride called Dinosaur in Animal Kingdom), Dinosaur, The Energy Thing

Mission :Space

Space Mission, Mission: Mars, Mission to Mars, The Space Ride*, The Ride that Makes You Sick, The One Ride that Takes You On a Rocket, The Simulator Ride, Number 4, Mission to Space, The Space Thing, The Ride that You Die On, The Ride the Kid Died On

Honey I Shrunk the Audience

Honey I Shrunk the Kids* (this is confusing because Honey I Shrunk the Kids is a playground at Disney/MGM Studios)

Soarin'

Soaring, Soar, The Airplane Ride, The Han glider Ride, Soarin' Over California* (Located in Disney's California Adventure), The New Zoom Ride (...), The Airplane Thing

Living with the Land

In the Earth, The Boat Ride* (Epcot has 3 of them)

The Living Seas

The Ride with Nemo in it (The Living Seas is actually a pavilion with no rides in it , yet), The Living Waters, The Nemo Thing

Innoventions

Innovations, Inventions, The Attraction with a Fire Truck In It

Maelstrom

Troll Ride, Norway Ride, The Boat Ride (See comment on Living with the Land), The Norway Thing

Fast Pass (helps you pass the lines faster than the standard queue)

Fast Track*, Express Pass, Quick Pass, Fast Ticket

Test Track

Fast Track*, Test Cars, Fast Cars, Race Cars, NASCAR, Test Ride, Test Rocket, The Fast Ride, Fast Pass*, The Car Ride, Number 5, and any combination of the words Test, Car, Track, Ride, Fast, and Race; The Test Thing

Great Movie Ride:

Great American Movie Ride, Number 2 (Damn it! We're Number ONE! At least in our little GMR minds), Great Movie Show, Great Movie Ride Show.

The only one i have is the Matterhorn at Disneyland. I heard a guest ask a cast member how to get to Magic Mountain. Guest was puzzled when the cast member started telling the guest to get on the freeway and head north. For some reason guests call it the mountain or magic mountain.

Someday I will tell you about the Mickey Salute.

True, I'd fogotten about that. Though I have had some of my co-cast members call it "It's a Small Third World"...

UPDATE FOR SPACESHIP EARTH

Starship Earth (Quoted by a guest who stared right at the marquee)

Also, the best possible place to hear all of the names is at or near the front of the park. (i.e: Epcot's Spaceship Earth or Legacy area)

My daughters, who are 6 and 4, are just learning the names of the roller coasters as they are just getting tall enough for them. They call Big Thunder Mountain Railroad the Wild Train because at the beginning it tells you to hold onto your hats because its the wildest ride. They have yet to ride California Screamin' because they are to small, but my six year tells everyone she has to grow an inch before she can go on the Mickey Mouse Roller Coaster.

While holding down the floor in front of the Hall of Fame in Toontown at MK, I heard one of those British soccer hooligans ask his kids if they wanted to go see "Princesses, Winnie the Pooh and Eeyore, or Donald and Girl Mickey."

I thought I was going to choke.
