Mean/Rude kids

Post by Marilou » Thu Jul 13, 2006 4:41 am

I was at WDW 6/29-7/5 and had a ball! We saw a "walking" talking palm tree outside AK while waiting for opening. My kids & lots others ran over to it. I had my kids interact with it/him , they have guest of honor badges so it always makes them feel special when they are greeted by name. I got sooo mad, however when several kids started kicking & punching it/him!! I could not believe my eyes. What in their Psyche or upbringing would make them think this is a good thing to do?????

We had seen "Push" the walking/talking trash can in MK 3 yrs ago, but couldn't find him 2 yrs ago. We found him this yr! We ran to him and I can't believe I am admitting this....we hugged him! He greeted my kids by name (badges again) and we told him we missed him, and he said he missed us too. Took my kids picture with "Push" and then he said "this is fun, where to now?" I said we were heading to Winnie the Pooh, wanna come? He said "sure" So he put on some fun music and followed us all thru Tommorowland. My kids were dancing and we had a small parade of people following us. Push told us he had to stop when we reached Fantasyland and said goodby to us. If any of you know the CM that is "Push" , please tell him that he made the most magical moment in our whole vacation.
Which is why I was so dumbfounded at the cruel behavior of kids that hit "Palm" at AK.

Sorry this was a long post But I had to share my Push story.

PUSH is awesome! He spotted my son's birthday badge and serenaded him with "Happy Birthday" in the middle of a shop. It was a high point of an otherwise dreary day. Thanks PUSH!

The other day a kid ran to a trashcan and kicked it as hard as he could. The parents laughed and said "that one doesn't talk!" and then turned to me and said "he saw one the other day that talks and moves and now he thinks they all do."

What struck me as odd was the kid's greeting for this potential PUSH. I wonder if he would also be the kind of kid that would kick and punch the palm tree. Or if he indeed kicked the real PUSH.

Often small kids like this one don't quite know right from wrong in unfamiliar situations (and WDW has plenty of those.) It's the parents' job to teach their kids. Laughing at your kid as he or she does something wrong is not good parenting.

As an elementary school teacher, I get to deal with morons like the laughters every day. They don't think about how their actions are affecting the big picture and when their kids turn out to be morons, just like them, they don't get it.

Speaking of "Palm". The other day as i ws entering AK through to the side of the entrance i saw 4 teens surrouning Palm and then 2 moere tried picking him up. Their attempts were futiel seeing how 30 ft away was a sercurity guard. Palm just said " Pheew my coconuts were shaking there for a min"

When my youngest (Liam) was 2 1/2, we were working in preschool on him using his words when he had a problem - in other words, don't clock the kid who takes your toy! We were at the Splash Mountain play area, and these two brothers were bullying younger kids. Liam went to look at the pressed quarters machine, and a 5 or 6 year old kid came and pushed him down. Liam hauled off and smacked him good. I of course went up and told him we do NOT hit, and made him apologize (not that the parent of the bully made him do the same :rolleyes :) but inside I was happy that he had given that kid a taste of his own medicine.

Good Parenting on your part! :)
I got hit HARD on my arm by a 4 year old who had some sort of hyper-excitement at Space Mountain fastpass area Sunday. I said, "Excuse me, that's my arm!"
To Dad's credit, he tried to make youngster apologize.Youngster kept going and ended up getting butt tapped. I felt a little bad he ended up getting spanked, but maybe Dad had enough by that point!
