Banished to Fantasyland

Post by Zazu » Sat Nov 19, 2005 12:22 pm

This week, I either got some good news or some bad news about my role. I just can't figure out which it is!

One day/week, I work in the department office on the computers. Since we have 8 managers and 8 computers, I just light on the desk of someone who's off that day and do my thing. Been working fine for three years now.

Last week, our Area Manager decided that there were too many non-managers in the office, and ordered that we all find somewhere else to do our office work. Well, folks who were in there prepping wristbands and training new cast just moved to the break room, but since I needed a computer... they found me one.

My new work area is in the Utilidors deep below Fantasyland, about three rooms back from the corridor. I do have a nice computer, and the person I kicked off it is more than happy to not work. Unfortunately, I can't get cell phone access down there, and as I may not stay there, I won't give out the phone number.

So, I now spend over an hour of my 6-hour shifts walking the full length of the Magic Kingdom, as my timeclock location, paperwork, and a midday meeting are all on Main Street. Further, my supervision has no way to contact me unless I happen to come upstairs -- especially as they don't know how to use the message function of CDS.

I'm now working fewer hours, getting a lot more exercise, being more efficient since management no longer interrupts, and remaining invisible and unavailable for most of my time.

But I still can't tell if all this is good news or bad!

The only thing that would make the situation better is if your manager was based at DLR.

as a fake doctor, although a hobo, I say its great news. If you are getting more work done, have to interruptions, and get exercise you enjoy, then take it for all its worth. Unless there is a problem, which then you could explain your position to the higher-ups.
