Grad Night from Hell

Post by PirateJohn » Fri Jun 17, 2005 8:28 am

I knew a lot of things happen on grad nights, and I expected that eventually, a lot of them would happen to me. I just never expected they would all happen at once.

The following story occured last night from 3:30-5:10 am, a span of one hour and forty minutes...

I returned to the Pirates building from lunch at 3:30, five minutes before I was scheduled to go back on the clock. As I entered the building through the exit, I heard a commotion, and one kid was telling me they needed paramedics. I looked around the corner and several kids were holding a girl who had passed out. I grabbed one of the kids, told him to come with me, and started running through the exit, yelling for the exiting guests to make way.

As the kid (who I later find out is the girl's boyfriend) and I got to the console, I grabbed the intercom to call the CM in the tower -- who also happened to be the lead. As I picked up the phone, the boyfriend told me that the reason she had passed out was because she OD'ed on ecstasy.

Oh, boy...

So I told the lead all the necessary info, then returned with the boyfriend back to the exit. I directed traffic as the friends all kept her semiconscious. Once the paramedics and security showed up, I left to bump back into rotation. I ended up bumping into the control tower.

While there, I saw another CM who was stationed inside the ride talking to a kid in a boat, then head to a phone to call me. He told me a kid in the boat was smoking pot, so I called security and told them the boat number and a description of the kid. While I was doing this, a boat got stuck in the ride and caused us to go 101.

Another CM managed to free the stuck boat after some doing, and I got bumped to front unload. I got there about when security did, so I gave them all the info to nab Mr. Happyweed. Unfortunately, since my fellow CM had not confiscated the joint, and security could not find any on him, they had to let him go.

As security was about to leave, I got a call from the tower saying that a kid had just jumped out of a different boat. I told security to stick around and handed them the phone to get the info. They stayed and nabbed the kid, but as they were talking to him at the exit, I saw another ride stop. A different kid had jumped out of a different boat.

Unfortunately, security was leaving with the first kid, so we had to call to get a different security guard to the attraction. Before he could arrive, another CM stationed inside the ride called tower to tell them that two couples were having oral sex in a boat. The security guard arrived, but when the boat arrived, the kid was nowhere to be found. According to everyone else on the boat, he took off before the boat entered the station.

Before the security guard left, I told him about the couples, so he stuck around to nab them instead, but alas, we had the wrong boat number so they got away, too.

At this point, I got bumped to rear unload, where I was to stay until my walk time at 5:10. Just before my walk time, I saw security once again come into the exit, but this time, they had Anaheim PD following close by. I didn't hear what happened to cause that, though.

I was soooooooo ready to clock out when 5:10 rolled around.

Hey, at least there was no way you were going to fall asleep. Imagine if it was boring, you would've been fighting to stay awake. :)
I have Grad Night next Thursday, the last and I believe biggest one. I'm working Classics, the side that includes Snow White, I hope I catch someone trying to steal the apple, funny thing is, it won't be there, we don't even put it out for a Grad Night, but they'll still be out of the car. :)

Makes the evac at 4am from Mansion seem like nothing.

When I was scheduled GN's, I would be in the Star Wars room... Like 3 Star Wars geeks graduated that year...so my friend and I would just make fun of the kids that came off the ride. The last one I did we had this kid at the bottom of the exit ramp who was wearing his spiffy slacks/vest/white button-up combo. This kid also wore SUNGLASSES IN THE STORE. Not only was it like 2am, but my store isn't that bright. He had no need for the glasses. So while he was leaning against the wall of the exit with his arms crossed, my friend and I started making jokes about it being so bright of a night/morning. He didn't budge, and we had a good laugh.

My other favorite moment was at the beginning of GN (LAST YEAR), I was standing in front of the Star Trader, and I saw a bunch of kids running towards Space Mountain. They were all saying "We're going on Space Mountain!" I was saying "No you're not!!!" :D:
HAHAHA!!!

I often wonder why Dland hosts Grad Nites. It just seems like too much of a headache, for all that work them.

like STduck said, tradition, but also money. I'm pretty sure the Grads pay more than the regular day guest, at least they did a few years ago. I knew one of the grads and the ticket price was $50 and the regular day admission had not reached that point yet.
