Even with buying tickets, it could come out cheaper than our other options, and that opens us up to be able to use the Dining Plan. How worthwhile is the DDP on the West Coast?

Do you have a list of unique restaurants and such at DTD and around the area? What do we HAVE to do while there?
Disney Dining Plan....no. Our Dining Plan here, to be quite frank, sucks. It's mainly comes in the form of prepaid vouchers (i.e. a $10 voucher, a $15 voucher, Snack Vouchers). If you come under the amount of the voucher, you don't get change back, and if you're over, you have to pay out of pocket. Than there's the whole issue of the fact that it takes a long time to enter the payment into MATRA....

We test trialed a WDW-style Dining Plan a few months ago. However, I have a hunch we won't be continuing it, as we just simply do not have the grand variety of restaurants that WDW has (and of course, it didn't help that we used vouchers for the test trial instead of linking it with the hotel room key).

As to unique restaurants, most of the restaurants in the resort are quite good (with the exception, IMO, of Rainforest Cafe, which is iffish in quality, if you ask me). In the surrounding area.....well, there are so many, it's hard to know where to start. If you venture far from the tourist areas, Orange County actually has GREAT Mexican food.

Mexican. Sounds good to me.

There's something you should know about Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant. They stopped serving real chicken after Cedar Fair took over. Now they use genetically engineered cockroaches to look, smell, and--gulp, taste--like chicken. Small wonder that place was fined more than once for food poisoning complaints.

You know, one of us SGTers has actually written a whole guidebook on Disneyland and Southern California. I could arrange for those planning a trip west to get a comp copy. Let me know....

I would love a copy but right now not even Porpura and MsMatterhorn are getting me back. Maybe when i feel better and get an ECV of my own but really I do want to go back especially to meet Wallaby.

Can someone explain how the Soarin show building got moved over to Adventureland in DL. I am looking at that google map and um I am confused as how it got over in the middle of the Jungle Cruise. I been gone a long time but not that long I thought.

I would love it. I'll even ask properly:

 :beg:  :beg: :zazu:

Oh, great Zazu, could we get a copy of the guidebook? It will truly add to the experience of going to Disneyland!

How was that?

Oh, and I am working on a neat little surprise that, if it works, will be fun.

P.S. It is still wide open.
I may need to abandon this plan in favor of a trip to Orlando, one I don't get to make nearly as often.

I have good news! And Shorty, you might want to make sure you're sitting down for this one ;) .

The Haunted Mansion WILL be up for your visit (or at least the first day of it, though I believe we may be skipping the HMH layover this year).

AND.... it will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary :D: .

AND.... the DLR will be hosting a special event to celebrate this very sombre occasion your first night here:

Well, looks like we've got our first day planned out. Missing that would be ghoulish and deadly. I wouldn't miss it for all the spirits in the Haunted Mansion. You couldn't keep me away with a really hot bride coming at me with an axe.

Okay, enough of these ghastly metonymies. Just... we'll be there. I am making that call now, and I don't think Shorty or Rat will mind me doing so. I also don't think they'll mind me saying that that may be the coolest event we do. How do you top the 40th anniversary of one of Disney's coolest, most beloved attractions?

Hey, so that Mansion celebration just happens to be on my wedding anniversary. So, ummm....anyone wanna buy it for us? Apparently it's per person and couples get an extra night at the Grand which is cool, but I think still overpriced for us.
