Of course it works...the damn kid is drunk and feeling no pain. I'm not sure it is overall best for them though. :twisted:Sarah Magdalene wrote:Actually, that makes me recall a conversation I had with a friend of Irish heritage. I kind of actually LIKE playing with those pizza blisters... but mine were never so... gross-sounding...hobie16 wrote:I can do that too. Just before lunch in an engineering class, I was asked to bring in pizza. "Have you ever gotten a blister on the roof of your mouth from hot pizza?" I replied. "And you start rubbing it with your tongue, and it pops? And now there's a piece of skin hanging down and you keep twirling it with your tongue hoping it'll break off but it never does."
The class decided they didn't want pizza. Ever.

Brandy is good for kids too. My mom would put a shot of it into tea when I was sick with a cold. I dunno how much good it did, but if it got me tipsy enough, who cares? Since we were of European heritage, my grandpa always served me my own shot glass of beer at dinner at his house, and my grandma would make me wine spritzers with Mogan David and 7-Up. Mind you, this was from my toddler years on! Surprising I didn't grow up to be an alky...or maybe not, since by the time I was a teen and all my friends were all excited about trying booze, my attitude was, "Been there, done that, no big deal."Sarah Magdalene wrote:Actually, that makes me recall a conversation I had with a friend of Irish heritage. I remember one family that used to put a 50/50 mix of coffee and milk in the baby bottles, that was a tradition that was brought here when their family immigrated many generations ago.Syndrome wrote:Brandy is good for kids too. Aha, so that's why I'm a Starbucks addict now! Besides the booze, whenever I spent the night at my grandparents' house, they served me coffee for breakfast, along with crusty bread to dip into it. That was the standard breakfast meal...considering they also allowed me to load the coffee with sugar cubes, I'm sure my mother was thrilled when they turned my hyper little self back over to her.GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:I remember one family that used to put a 50/50 mix of coffee and milk in the baby bottles, that was a tradition that was brought here when their family immigrated many generations ago.

Re: Be a SG, and you get Rewarded!!!!!
On my second birthday my mom and I were flying from Sicily, Italy (dad was in the Navy and stationed there) back to the States. According to her I was very fussy and a man gave her a bottle of Jack Daniels and told her to put some in my bottle, rub some on my gums, and have the rest herself. It worked, I quieted down and slept for the rest of the flight.
I like to say I was passed out drunk at 2 years old. :)

Kinda reminds me of the flight attendant who tried to slip a screaming kid some Xanax in a cup of apple juice. She got in trouble for it, but personally I think she deserved a medal.Shorty82 wrote:On my second birthday my mom and I were flying from Sicily, Italy (dad was in the Navy and stationed there) back to the States. Hehe, maybe coffee works like Ritalin. Ritalin is a stimulant, but calms down hyper kids.....a good rationale to give the little darlings some :D:GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:I remember one family that used to put a 50/50 mix of coffee and milk in the baby bottles, that was a tradition that was brought here when their family immigrated many generations ago.

My mom always did that. The Cuban logic behind that is if you let baby drink pure milk before putting them down to sleep, the milk will curdle in the baby's intestines and the baby will die.GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:I remember one family that used to put a 50/50 mix of coffee and milk in the baby bottles, that was a tradition that was brought here when their family immigrated many generations ago.

Mom also forbade us from sitting on a hot sidewalk (the heat will make the water in your kidneys evaporate and then you'll die), walking barefoot on the cold floor (your ovaries/lungs will freeze and crack), a red string placed on your forehead will cure you of a headache (never worked on my migranes), et cetra.
I always thought it was just her until one of my friend's mom caught us sitting on the sidewalk one summer and reprimanded us.
