No matter where you are, this is the rule:

Everyone who drives faster than you is a Maniac.
Everyone who drives slower than you do is a Moron.

I flash on the oddest ads I haven't seen in years at times. There was an ad in the old Life magazine for I forget what kind and brand of navigation device, but the scenario was an explorer was flying over the North Pole, when his sextant slid to the floor of the cockpit and broke. "On top of the world, where his compass was useless," was part of the text I remember, the explorer grabbed the navigation device the ad was for, and was able to safely navigate his plane for the rest of the trip. This would've been between the mid-to-late 60s/early 70s, as Life folded in '72. I remember we got a renewal reminder in the form of a cover with a picture of Mark Spitz swimming, along with a letter saying that our subscription had expired, so they could only send us the front cover of the current issue. That just stuck in my head for some reason.

It has just been announced that, with GPS so widely available, the Coast Guard will retire the LORAN-C navigation system in February.

Today I saw a SG home owner park their car in the back area fire lane. 3 hours later that car was surrounded with 1.5 feet of standing water. The back up drain got clogged and the rain water collected. I was laughing because they had to call a tow truck to get the idiot out.

Now I have a rain related story. My parents just had all new windows put into their condo. The rain was so bad that the ceil did not hold. In the master bedroom, the window leaked water down the wall onto the carpet. My dad called the guy who did the windows and they are coming out to fix everything. Can we all say oops!

That's why the Hampton Roads area of Virginia is so bad! What's supposedly the world's largest Naval base is in Norfolk, so you have all those Sailors from all over the country, and in some cases, their spouses, all with their different driving styles.

The window in my room is doublehung, and the bottom pane has a crack from top to bottom. It's been taped over, but yesterday I noticed water was collecting between the double panes. Worse, despite my having closed the window completely due to the high winds and rain, my bed and nearby belongings started getting wet. I had to put towels around the bottom of the window and on the head of my bed--tried to move it but it wouldn't budge.Turns out where there used to be a shade, there's a leak in the top of the window. That's where the water was coming from. I have two inches of water in the bottom of the window, trapped between the double panes. Wonder when or if it'll come out, or we'll have to pull the tape off the crack and let it drip out? I also wonder if it would help to remove the top frame of the shade?
