I have a similar situation (kinda). I work in a classical radio station. I enjoy some classical and can ignore much of the rest, but opera drives me totally insane (yea, not a long drive). I can't STAND it. But as long as they don't schedule more than one opera piece per shift I can grip my chair arms, grit my teeth and hold out. But on occasion they have been known to devote several hours in a row to Opera, and by the end of my shift I'm ready to slit some throats. The only thing that makes it marginally bearable is that they won't do it again for a month or so.

Play the "P.D.Q.Bach" as a substitute!! hehehe
The problem is, I would want to work more than 8 hours a week!

Been there, got the albums. :)
I wonder if anyone has designed a "noise canceling" earplug that can be wirelessly connected to an audio source (like the background loop) that would selectively blank the loop music while allowing you to hear everything else. And if it could be made in a fully in ear plug it wouldn't be obvious. :D:

I've been to two live PDQ Bach concerts, one at Carnagie Hall and the other at the Kennedy Center. Both were great.
For "Casual Regular" (permanent part time) you have to have at least two days of availability a week. My two days are Wednesday and Thursday; they cannot schedule me for any other days of the week without my specific consent. Generally my shifts are six hours, not eight. And I get all the bennies.

Well I'm part time as well in Fantasyland so I only work at most 24 hours over 2 days, so thats probably a factor on why I've been able to deal with it for a year and a half. It's pretty much a revolving door for CMs, coordinators, and managers, and (with the exception of the most recent batch of CPs... I'll miss them) get the leftovers that Ad/lib, T-land, and Frontier didn't want. It's fun to work with some of the older guys and gals, some are a bit grumpy at times but they are still fun. We are in charge of the west end of the hub for parades, we do PAC for Fireworks, and we have the most attractions than any other area (9 including toontown). Its got the most guest interaction than any other land, yet it lacks so much in story and theming from the cast. The managers are pretty cool, and are generally willing to help you out if you respect them. Small world complex is always the most understaffed despite being the side where most people are trained (it was my first complex)- my bet is call-ins. Best part about F-land is you normally have variety... depending on what complex you are trained on and how many you know (and the mood of CDS and GEMS) you could work small world, peter pan, and carrousel in the morning, pick up dream maker for 2 hours, then be moved to philhar/dumbo complex, do Wishes PAC, then finish the night on pooh/snow/teacups complex. All without a costume change! I'm trained on all 3 f-land complexes, yet all I ever get is Small World (or pulled from philhar or pooh to small world). It kinda sucks since small world only has 6 places at the most in its rotation versus the 9 in pan/carrousel rotation so for the most part I always get stuck with bumping someone at pan FP return, heading to merge/hell, load 2, then standby and hopefully getting my break before I get to load 1. I rarely actually get anything IN small world, which is my favorite (if I'm unload 1 and theres someone good in tower or vice-versa, we can get that line DOWN!)
Wow that ended up much longer than I intended and transformed into a rant about Fantasyland...sorry 'bout that.
...it's a world of laughter, a world of tears,
it's a world of hope, it's a world of fears,
there's so much that we share,
that it's time we're aware,
it's a small world after all.

No thats o.k., its interesting to us "outsiders" how things work!!, the problem that I would have working IASW would be I would get a little glassy eyed after ten minutes of hearing a certain song......

The scary thing is that it sounds surprisingly similar to future world west. In the last six months we must have gone through 6 managers, an Area Manager, 4 coordinators, and DOZENS of hourly cms. The Land/Circle complex tends to be the most understaffed, even though it seems like we do the most. We do pavilion/area cleaning in the morning (something Soarin' could easily do). Then we do all pavilion greeting/stroller hell and Controlled Access/SWIRL. You start off with Front Doors Entrance go to Circle of Life back to Front Doors Exit then to KIDCOT followed by stand-by greeter, unload 2, unload, merge, dispatch, and then video monitor. Then Soarin' has audacity to complain about their difficult closing procedures, which include powering down the ride and putting red clips on each carriage. TRAGIC!!! LOL! Try pushing a dozen boats into boat storage every night! That's difficult! LOL!

Oh I took a 1.50 an hour pay cut to come work for Disney. I spent my entire summer before leaving for college there while the rest of my friends got wasted and partied. And you know what? I don't regret a single second of it. All the complaints you hear from me are just ways it could be even better. I could be working custodial and I would still be excited. (at least I think so...) My point is a lot of our complaints on SGT is just venting aggrivation. I love my job and I get very sad when I finish a season and have to go back to school.

And those of us who are non-CMs here (that know what this place is all about) realize this and applaud our CM friends for their ability to smile on stage and hold their tempers until they can get here among friends to let it out. And we are happy to be able to contribute our humor and friendship to allow you all the ability to go back tomorrow, put on a happy face, and let the SGs do their worst with a calm exterior (tho I know all of you are taking mental notes so you can relay the idiocy to the rest of us later).
I can't tell you how often I have said out loud "I'm gonna draw and quarter/hang/throttle/etc) my boss". I'm enough of a pacifist with a strong empathy streak that I would have a very hard time "going postal" (tho it has been close a time or two).
So keep up the good work.
Randy

On my 30th birthday trip we overheard a CM working custodial whose roommate was a monorail pilot. He talked about his job in custodial like he was a monorail pilot, he was just happy to be there.
Me, I'd be happy on the railways at MK...
