Bathing Suit Season

Hello Everyone! I'm new here. I am loving this site! I miss working for the mouse so much. ;)

I can remember those hot summer days when people chose not to wear appropriate clothes. I thought that the policy was that women could wear bathing suit tops as long as they were covered completely. Men could not go without shirts. Now I don't agree with this. I feel that everyone should wear shirts at all times. Here is my story of a guest situation.

I was working on a very hot day in July. I was loading guests when I saw a group of women in the queue that chose to remove their tops to wear their bathing suit tops. However one well endowed senior female did not have a bathing suit top on, she was wearing a basic bra. I did not feel this was appropriate so I called my manager at the time to ask him to check it out. He said that there was nothing we could do. She was covered up. I thought to myself, are you kidding me? She is wearing a bra for goodness sakes.

What do you think about it?

Wow, that's just... wrong. I mean, spray paint will cover you up, too, but it's hardly appropriate park wear! (Disney Mom, I'm not trying to give you ideas. :D :)

My sisters and I were at BB on 8/4/09. We were accompanied by 9 children ranging in age from 4-14. At approximately 4 pm we exited the wave pool. We went to gather our things which were located in a heavily populated seating area between the wave pool and the chairlift. As we are walking my 9year old son asked why there is a lady (age 35-40) who is topless. At this point we are only a few steps from her and have to walk by her to get to our things. She has taken off her top and is changing into her sports bra and tee shirt. There are children everywhere. All the children with us noticed and comment about her.

As we walk by my sister informs her and her family that there are changing room and that she should use them. She was European but did speak in English to my sister so this wasn’t a language barrier issue. Cultural issue, I’m sure but no language barriers.

If that’s not bad enough we started to gather our things when I see her hike up her skirt, pull off her bathing suit bottoms and put on her underwear. All while I got a full moon view in broad daylight. At this point my sister starts to go back over to tell them to stop when this ladies husband wraps a towel around his waist, removes his swim trunks and puts on his underwear. Again we get more of a view then we wanted. He then drops the towel. He is standing in his underwear and grabs his shorts and put them on.

As all of this is happening I start looking for the nearest cm to report this. My other sister is ushering our kids out this area. By the time I find a cm to report this they had left the area. We and a few other people who witnessed this gave the cm the details of what happened. The cm listened but did not appear too concerned about this.

This all happened in a few short minutes. As it was happening it was rather shocking. I know I did not react as quickly as I should have. My first concern was that of the children in my care. I keep replaying the details in my mind. I’m wondering what if any thing I could have done to handle this better? I am also trying to decide if I should follow up with Disney over this or just let it go. I am bugged by the fact that the cm just didn’t appear to think this was that big of a deal. I realize this is not the norm. I’ve been to the water parks tons of times with my children and we have never encountered anything like this behavior. I do think this was more of a cultural difference then some weirdo child molester type issue. What would you guys have done? Would you follow up with Disney or just let it go?

I think that your manager was either a clueless moron or completely lacking in the spine necessary to take the appropriate action. All managers are required to attend classes and seminars that address appropriate dress code for guests, cast, and themselves. All managers are given explicit instruction via SOG on this topic.

For the record, undergarments are not valid or appropriate outer garments when attending any Disney venue. The manager will approach, inform guest as to policy, and offer guest chance to either dress appropriately or be taken backstage for escort out of property/park.

So what did this guest expect the cast member to do?

The situation had resolved itself prior to cast member arrival. I am sure the CM listened, apologized and thanked guest for bringing it to the CMs attention. However, no further action is possible since the situation was RESOLVED.

If/when the disgruntled guest contacts Disney Communications, these same steps and responses will be done and uttered.

Yeah, unfortunately he was clueless. This incident always stuck with me because, restaurants, malls, and general public places would not have let this happen. I as a female would not feel comfortable walking out in public with just my underwear on. I have nightmares about it, why would I actually do it?

On another note, I can remember visiting as a guest when I was a child and seeing women walk around in bikini tops at the park and wearing thongs at the waterparks. I felt then that it was inappropriate. I did find out as a cast member the different fashions from different cultures. We may not feel that is appropriate but they may think it is.

We used to play a game at work called how many women do you see without bras on?: Within 2 mins. I counted 15! Sick huh? lol
