Hey, Ktulu, without driving you crazy with tech questions- how difficult is it to do that? We have a new dvd/vcr combo and I'd love to import some video stuff onto the computer- do you get a special program and then hook the machines up to the computer with USB cables or what? Just how complicated is it for your average Fairy to learn to do?

Thanks!
Bru

In the past I've been doing it by running my source through my video camera that does digital pass-through. I then capture it using final cut pro (this is on a mac). I've yet to do any dvd's, but I think I have some software that I can use to decode dvd and then pull the stuff I need. All my stuff is done via firewire, not usb. Firewire is faster. I've yet to mess around with my pc to do video stuff.

Thanks so much! I'm going to have to look into getting the stuff to do it with. . .

I lucked out with my camera, got it on clearance as a floor model at a high end audio/video shop. People don't go there for the camera's ;) It was a $1300 video camera I got for $350. Works great!

I'm taking us back a week or more, but I have finally got a response to this.

Take a look and feel free to put it here if it meets approval. :D:

I still have 3 more to cut the background out of. That's what takes the most time as I have to cut out the background of each frame. I also do the fade-in/fade-out so they work as a loop. The one I am currently working on is the "shattering gong". I hope to continue working on these until I either get all the available sequences in a single gif or I runout of memory to edit them (one of the limiting factors on how large an animated gif can get).

I would venture to make them seperate! that way you could use them without fear of hitting the upper limit on size!

OR you could send them to Zazu and he could use his SGT voodoo to get them in the smilies list!!

I am editing them seperately so I could submit them as individuals, but part of the challenge is trying to find the ultimate limit. Actually if I manage to get all 5 in one gif I may search some of my other DVDs with MMC openings that may have different openings on them. Who knows, I may eventually have a single HUGE gif with a dozen or more individual MMC gongs. :D: Of course it could then be too huge to be practical for making it available here on an ongoing basis. :D:

Sometimes the challenge itself makes the journey.
