I've become a lurker on any site, including here, b/c of some of the negative behavior I've encountered on other boards and just once, here (by a visiting jerk) but I do continue to read. I joined this board primarily to make sure I, or my children, never act like a SG but I realized there were some very welcoming and intelligent people here with a wealth of info. I really only post on one other board that's much more positive than what I think board x is and if anyone wants the name of that board, I'll be happy to give it to you if you pm me.

DragonFox98 wrote:Welcome, pbb!!! I love Riker's picture. I lost my Amber (Amby) on July 4, 2003...it was devastating. She owned me as only a Golden could...and she thought she was a lapdog! LOL I haven't yet been able to adopt another one...still too painful, but my dad just got a puppy in November after loosing his Golden in 2008. He is in contact with the President of the local Golden retriever rescue organization so I will contact her about adopting in the near future. But first: a fight with my township to put up a fence! :)

I liked your post; I think it many points spot on. And I think you will enjoy it here.
Thank You for the Welcome! Tell Dad Congratulations! I don't think we can go through puppy hood again. We are going the rescue route next time. If you get a chance read "A Big Little Life" by author Dean Koontz about his Golden Trixie. It was a wonderful tribute to a his special Golden. I am going to do what he did and adopt a retired dog from a Canine Assistance facility. No Puppy issues plus the dogs are trained already.......I thought that was pretty smart.

We have 2 Golden Rescues in Atlanta and they are swamped with beautiful healthy Goldens who have been abandoned because of economic issues such as foreclosures. I would bet you could pick up a great young healthy Golden very easily. I am sure your first Golden will understand. Amby wants you to be happy. She will understand. :)

Welcome!! I'm still new here too...but I enjoy reading...even though I still mainly lurk simply because I'm gun shy. People on many message boards don't think before they speak, or think they have the right to be a jerk just because there is a computer between them and their victim.

My mom just lost her Golden, Sunny, in April. She was 10, and well loved. She's resisting the pull of a new companion, but she likes to play grandma to my sister's two pups. My brother had her pawprint tattooed on his leg...and my daughter carries pictures of her on a keychain. They are wonderful dogs! Or furry people...however you like to look at it. :p:

Give them some credit, dismomof5 -- many of them don't think after they speak, either! :D:

I think I'll stick with "dog". Those who work at Disney get a different image from the term "furry", and it's not always so good.

Nothing at all, although, technically, you're a scaly. Furverts, on the other hand... Well, they're the living epitome of Rule 34.

(Rule 34: If it exists, there exists internet porn for it. And do not google Furvert, folks.)

I do...kinda...fall into that category though, I guess I just know where to draw the line. :p:

If you can draw several lines, you can do your own artwork! :cat1:

While I do believe that what some folks associate with "furry" is not the reality of the situation, I think I will leave that discussion for another time and place.

Like the thought that all furries do something, but in reality only a small portion of furries do something in that direction, and only a small portion of those actually do the thing furries are well known for thanks to the media?

(If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's probably for the best)
