susislicker wrote:Hear! Hear! I hated riding the damn thing at DL at Christmas. But I could not walk. My back is so bad, I cry at night. Yet, I *look* healthy enough to walk. God, If only I could. That was the first trip I have taken to DL and not been able to walk. It was heartbreaking, but I did get to enjoy the Park only a little; (only because some jag gave us the flu on top of it!!!!!) I hope I was polite and did not cut off anyone, I don't think I did. I was careful to watch everywhere around me. The only one that got hurt by my ECV was that jag kid who jumped over the front of it to beat me to get in line! He got a bleeding scratch on his ankle, but he is the one who jumped on the front of the scooter while I was moving and tried to stop as quickly as I could.
My sister is in a similar situation. From just looking at her, she appears healthy enough. But she has joint problems due to lupus/arthritis (not sure of the exact diagnosis). Some days are better than others. On a daily basis she does OK with the walking she needs to do. She has a handicap hang-tag for her car to help her minimize the necessary walking. Stairs are her biggest problem.

So while her daily life is OK without a wheelchair or scooter, I *know* that when she eventually gets back to Disney she'll need to rent one or the other to get around. Otherwise, she won't be able to enjoy her time in the park very much. She'll be one of those who drives from one place to the next, but still be able to walk through the line. And I *know* she won't be a SG about it! (I'll make sure to brief her before her trip) Perhaps she'd just get a GAC to avoid stairs (Splash and Dinosaur are the two queues that spring to mind).

So long as she's not *sprinting* to the lines when she gets off the scooter and pushing people out of her way like she's playing American Gladiator the home game, I'm sure no one will think any less of her for needing assistance.

By the way, you should convince her to go back soon...it turns out that WDW is really fun! :D:

Oh god, I better not get a stroller/wheelchair rental position for this CP. These stories are horrific. And having attended one of the most disabled accessible friendly universities in Wisconsin, I've seen first hand how people who really need strollers and wheelchairs struggle. It's not fun at all.

Adult heelies? I say invest in fishing line and trip 'em with it. String it across the midway, lying on the ground, and when anyone comes by on heelies, yank the end and clothesline 'em. If you're lucky, they may never be able to pollute the gene pool.

Well, I have heard that they make kids remove the wheels when going into the park, I wonder if they are going to do the same thing with the adult version!!
